Chapter 22: Forgive, but Don't Forget (part 1)

When we last left Angel, she was reeling from two horrific events: the Appaling Behavior of Marcus, who told a scandalous lie to all of the other wrestlers, and the Shocking News that Scott's girlfriend Marie was actually her old arch-nemesis, Nightshade. The horror, the horror! What's that? You missed it? Never fear. Angel recaps it all unnecessarily in a letter to Chris.

Chapter 22: Forgive, but Don't Forget

Dear Chris,

Only one more week until you come home -- I can't wait. [unless international mail was a lot faster in 1993, I'm pretty sure this letter will arrive after he gets home] How are you doing? You don't know how lonely this place is without you here. I miss you so much!

Anyway, how have things been in the Land of the Rising Sun? Things here have been pretty awful. First all of my friends deserted me. I had no idea why until I talked to Dustin who informed me that Marcus spread a rumor that I had broken up with him to get to you. "He makes me sick," was my first reaction. But then I thought about it for a while. What had I ever done to him to make him so mad? After all, it was he who had been cheating on me. Thinking back on the confrontation we had, I realized how hard I'd been on him. Now, I know what you're thinking. Angel, are you nuts? First you hate him, now you almost feel sorry for him???

Sorry, Chris, I can't help it. I'm as soft hearted as I am soft in the head (Ha!) [Like ha ha. Not].

There's something else that happened here. This is very upsetting to write about, so I'll be concise. You know Scott Steiner, right? I've been friends with him for a while and he's raved to me about his girlfriend Marie so I agreed to meet her. When I did, she turned out to be a woman from my past. It was horrible. I'll tell you when I get back, okay?

Anyway, don't want to bring you down anymore than I already have. Write me back - soon! I love you, Chris.

Your Forever,
Sunshine [oh gross]

Chris re-read the letter Angel had written him. Angel was too good sometimes. Marcus nearly destroys her life [um, how does he get that idea from this stupid letter?] and she's ready to make up with him?

Chris popped a Frankie Valli CD into his portable player. [aww yeah] Singing along to his new favorite song "Little Angel" [oh GLORY] he tried to figure out who this woman from Angel's past could be. He'd be home in 2 days, then he'd ask her about it.

---

NOTES:

1) What was the point of this letter? I was the only person who read this ... why did I think I needed to recap the last two chapters for myself? Also, I loathe Angel.

2) "Little Angel" is beyond a B-side. I was such a dork. So is whoever made this. See, I'm not alone. Pfft, and I thought I had to make up people as nerdy as me.

COMING UP NEXT:

Angel confronts Marcus about his Heinous Deed. Marcus acts like one of several complete psychos I have dated throughout my life. Foreshadowing? Tune in next time (I'm thinking Thursday) for ...

Chapter 16: Deeper in Love

When we last left our witless troupe of characters, Angel and Chris had just gone on THE BEST DATE EVER, but had somehow resisted any sorts of egregious declarations. Will that trend continue? You can cheat by looking at the tags or you can read for yourselves in ...

Chapter 16: Deeper in Love

Over the next few weeks, Angel and Chris' relationship grew stronger.

They spent one night walking on the moonlit shore of Lake Sinclair in Georgia, one night at a festival in Louisiana, and many more magic nights just talking.

Tongiht, Angel would be bringing her doo-wop records over to Chris' house [oh, this is bad]. Chris was a hard-core Frankie Vallie fan, [oh, this is BAD] but he was willing to listen to what Angel liked.

He was terribly in love with her. She was on his mind every minute of the day. He had never felt this way about anyone else before. He was very happy that she had all but forgotten about his sneeze-a-thon.
---
Angel rang Chris' doorbell. He answered it and she greeted him with a kiss.

"Tonight, you're going to meet the Mello-Kings, soar with the Skyliners, float with the Flamingoes, you'll hear some songs from the Sheilds, we'll dance to the Diamonds, you'll learn to love Little Anthony, youll find delight in the Dubs, and, of course, I have to Play the Passions." [oh, that was awful.]

"You should've been a DeeJay, Angel."

She threw her head back and laughed. "I'm very glad I didn't become one."

"Why?"

"I would've never met the great friends I met as a nurse, but most importantly," she said coyly, wrapping her arms around his neck, "I woudl haev never met you." She punctuated her sentence with a long, passionate kiss." [Oh wow. I feel queasy.]

"Believe me, Angel. I'm just as glad as you. You're an incredible woman. I am the luckiest guy in the whole world."

"And I am the luckiest woman. You mean more to men than just about anyone else on Earth, Chris."

Angel did not add the 3 little words that Chris wanted to hear more than anything else. In truth, Angel was afraid. In a deep, dark part of her soul, she feared that she could not trust Chris with her love, as she had done before with Marcus and Marty. What if he hurt her? How could her heart take it? She had to wait until the right time. She only hoped that there would be a right time.
---

They spent teh whole night listening to the doo-wop melodies. Chris had to admit taht some were catchy. He especially liked At My Front Door by the El Dorados and I Wonder Why by Dion and the Belmonts. [my sincere apologies to all living members of both groups. Dead ones too].

Angel had saved her favorite slow songs for last. Tonite, Tonite, Just to be With You, Tears on my Pillow, I Don't Have You, The Closer You Are, Long Lonely Nights, Teardrops, Lovers Never Say Goodbye, I Believe, and My Desire [you can see a lot of erase marks in this paragraph. I was apparantly really devoted to selecting the right songs].

By the time the Mello-Kings started singing Tonite, Tonite, Chris and Angel were exhausted from dancing and they crashed on the couch. She snuggled up close to him and he wrapped his arms around her tightly. Chris knew the words to Tears on My Pillow and sang along softly, in perfect harmony.

"Your voice is beautiful, Chris."

"So are you." [GOSH. We get the point already!]

She pressed even closer to him, feeling his warmth [...!]. She closed her eyes and let the music and magic of the night flow through her body.

The Closer You Are began to play, and every bad feeling she had left in her dissolved.

"I love you, Chris," she whispered.

"I love you too, Angelica."

NOTES

1) Hooooo boy. Check your blood sugar, folks.

2) What's that you say? Fuzzy, why weren't you one of the cool kids in middle school? Gee, I have no idea.

Now I know what you're thinking. Where's the drama? The tears? The egregious declarations of platonic love? Well ... if you're missing all that, then you won't want to miss ...

Chapter 17 - A Departure - In which one of our beloved characters makes A Departure. Suckitude guaranteed!

marginalia

As promised, here is a window into my 12-14-year-old brain via the stuff I scrawled all over my notebook. I really wish I had a scanner, because I can't reproduce the doodles.

BOOK I:

-A drawing of a mosquito drinking out of a juicebox that says "BLOOD"

-The word "MORADS" with a list from 1-10. [?]

-A list of 27 Jay and the Americans songs with rating next to it. I also had a helpful number line that explained that 1 was "bad," 5 was "eh," and 10 was "good." I'll let you know that the weak "Yellow Forest" only got a 2, whereas the slammin' "Cara Mia" registered a full 10.

-This poem about oldies. I wrote it in honor of my friend Julia's 12th bday - she also liked oldies - in a card shaped like a boom box. It's to be sung to the tune of Little Caeser and the Romans' "Those Oldies but Goodies."

Those oldies but goodies
Are better than rap
The songs of the 90's
Make me want to nap
Michael Bolton can't sing at all
and Mariah Carey sounds like a duck call
Boyz 2 Men just aren't hot
But at least Madonna's good - NOT
z100 plays nothing but trash
I'd rather listen to CBS in a flash
MC Hammer is a bunch of noise
How about the Platters or the Beach Boys?
So listen to oldies for all of these reasons
Long live The Supremes and the 4 Seasons!

BOOK II

-The lyrics of "Bridge over Troubled Water" only with the subheading "the ballad of Marty and Anjel." I guess this was before I decided that he should have the flu in every chapter.

-A "script" I had to read on the radio. I was a devoted listener of CBS FM, the oldies station in NYC. I called in all the time. I won all kinds of stuff in the contests - everything from concert tickets to a trip to Romania. I even ... wow, I can't believe I'm admitting this ... used to dedicate songs to wrestlers on their birthdays. Yikes. Ok. Anyway. One time I got to be one of the listeners announcing a song on some countdown. I was so flustered that I wrote this down so I wouldn't forget what to say: "Hi Cousin Brucie! This is FuzzyOctopus. I am 12 and a big fan of oldies! Here is number 144, Burning Love by Elvis."

-The names of all the characters on M*A*S*H. I have to be the only sixth grader who would stay up late to watch reruns of M*A*S*H and write wrestling fanfiction.

-The words "Civic Del Sol from Honda." No clue.

BOOK III

The inside cover is labeled "graffitti page." The following things are scrawled in there:

BOBBY LEE (as in, Bobby Lee Eaton) Guiding Light RULES

Enough OJ! Owen Hart RULES! Shawn Micheals!

I <3 FRANKIE VALLI FOREVER! (along with the titles of varoius 4 Seasons songs)

Flea markets are cool! BACHIGALOOOOOO! J-E-T-S, JETS JETS JETS!

Cabin Boy opens Jan 7. [still never seen it]

- I apparantly decided that it was a good idea to start making a list of topics making news in 1994. It's an interesting blend of things that were truly newsworthy, like the WTC bombing in March, things that happened in NYC, like Clinton visiting Brooklyn, things that I had to report about in eigth grade social studies class, like the prime minister of Japan (Moriniro Hosakowa) resigning, and things that could only possibly have been newsworthy to me, like FRANKIE VALLI CONCERT in September.

- A list of famous people I've talked to. They range in famousness from Hacksaw Jim Duggan's father to George Harrison. Most of them are either wrestlers or CBS FM DJs. I also have a sublist of "Famous People who have acknowledged my presence." These are all wrestlers. Here is a sample entry: "MACHO MAN (he looked at my sign that said "Elizabeth <3 Ric Flair" and shook his head"

- A poem about my eighth grade earth science teacher, Mrs. Lafferty. If I thought for a second any of you would get any of it, I'd post it.

BOOK IV

- According to the notes in this book, 1994 is when I finally started listening to modern music, because the effusive praise for Frankie Valli and Jay and the Americans has been replaced by The Smashing Pumpkins and Weezer. Alas. There are also some names of bands I can't even remember listening to, like Ruth Ruth and Bracket. And ok, I'm not going to lie ... there is still quite a bit of Frankie Valli RULES scrawled in there.

-A list of dates that corresponded to important events in various relationships I had throughout the course of my fanfic writing career. I would like to add that I recently felt the need to add the date of my wedding. For posterity, I suppose.

Wow.

Ok.

Well then. COMING UP NEXT ... it's back to the thrilling life of Angel 'n Friends. Will Chris finally ask Angel out? Will Angel say yes? Will there be an egregious declaration of love? Find out next time in ... Chapter 12 Part II: Bobby's New Partner (continued)

Chapter 11: Rick and Scott's Party

USA had a Monday Night Raw 800th episode special on last night. Good stuff! Got to see clips of all my old faves from back in 1993, not to mention a chance to check out Cody Rhodes. Dustin's little bro has some killer abs, y'all.

Moving right along!

Here comes an amazing display of needless moralizing to what was an audience of uno (me), not to mention another glimpse into the world's lamest party scene ... someone get some milk for Angel's cookies, it's ...

Chapter 14: Rick and Scott's Party

Angel arrived at the party a little after 5:00 PM. She was wearing a wine colored silk blouse and a black miniskirt [WHAT?!? That trollop!]. She pulled her shining hair into a long braid.

Sting greeted her and his eyes lit up when he saw the cookies she'd brought. [ahem]

When she stepped inside, she immediately noticed that it was smaller than the last bash. She knew everyone there, Ricky Steamboat, Dustin Rhodes, Missy Hyatt, and Ron Simmons. "Where are the Steiners?" she asked Sting after greeting everyone.

"In the kitchen. Scotty wanted to use the phone for a sec."

They came out and when they saw her both of their faces shiowed happy recongition.

"Angie! It's been too long!"

"Hi, Ang."

She hugged them both and congratulated them. "Thanks Angie. Speaking of congratulations, did you hear about Dustin?"

Angel nodded. "Isn't it wonderful? I'm so happy for him."

Sting and Missy were chatting while the others were listening to Dustin talk about his fiance [zzzzz]. Rick went over to join them, but Scott said that he wanted to hang back. Angel decided to keep him company.

"Hey, I heard about you and Marcus."

"Who hasn't?" she half-smiled.

"I didn't think he was that sort of person. How are you doing?" he asked as they sat on a couch.

"I'm much better, thanks. I guess I've gotten over it. I'll never forgive him, though. He hurt me pretty bad."

Scott looked down at the floor. Angel touched his huge shoulder lightly.

"Scott, are you allright?" He sat up and nodded. A rap song came on. Angel wrinkled her nose. Scott saw this and smiled. "Don't like rap?"

She shook her head. "I love doo-wop. 'Tonite, Tonite' by the Mello-Kings is my favorite. Or mabye the 5 Satins with 'In the Still of the Night'." [rock on, young me, rock on.]

Scott hung his head again, and then put his face in his hands [here we go!].

"What did I say? What's wrong, Scotty?" she asked gently.

He sat up again, this time drawing in a long breath. He took his face from his hands and apologized. "I'm just having some problems with my girlfriend and 'In the Still of the Nite" by Boyz II Men is our song. Or maybe it's 'was' our song." He drew in another breath.

"If you want to talk to someone about it, I'm here."

"Thanks, Ang. It's easy to talk to a brother like Rick because he's my best friend, but this subject is very hard to discuss with him. I think I do need to talk to you. It's hard to talk to Sting or Dustin because we're so far apart most of the time." [as opposed to Angel, who lives in his garage?]

"Go ahead when you're ready."

"Well this whole fight is about one thing. This may sound silly, but I don't want to have sex until I'm married."

"That's not silly. I feel the same way."

"Really? We're a dying breed, Ang." [maybe because you're not reproducing?]

"I know. I'll respect whatever other people feel, but I suppose I'm kind of old fashioned. It's kind of a morality issue, I guess."

"I sure wish Marie felt that way, you see, every time we start getting a little too far too fast, I'd stop and ask her to slow down. I guess I did that one too many times last night, because she told me I had stepped over the line. Then she screamed at me to get out and leave her forever. I must have sat and cried for six hours last night. I love her so much. Life without her has become unbearable, oh god, here I go again." he said as a tear rolled down hes cheeck. [about time] Angel picked up his hand and squoze it.

"Why can't you talk to your brother about this?"

"Well, he made a mistake a long time ago, and doesn't want his little brother to make the same mistake [huh?]. Every time Marie and I start up, I get one step closer to losing my virginity. If Rick knew that, he'd lose all respect towards me." [!!!]

"Your borther's respect means a lot to you, doesn't it?"

He nodded.

"Scotty, did Marie love you."

"That's what she told me, why?"

"Well, I'll bet she's feeling as sad as you are right now. She was probably upset last night, but deply regretting what she said to you now."

"You really think so?"

"Yes. Love is the strongest force on earth, and you and Marie have plenty of it. You'll pull together."

"Ang, you're an inspiration and a good friend. Thank you." he gave her a hug.

Scotty went over to talk to Dustin. She was about to go join him when Missy Hyatt stopped her. "Hi Missy."

"Hi Angel. Look, I want to apoligize to you. I've been acting pretty rotton to you lately."

"Thanks, Missy. That's allright."

"Can you beileve what that Creep Marcus Bagwell did to us? Got your eyes on anyone else?"

"Not yet."

"Well stay away from Johnny Gunn. He's mine."

"No problem."

"See ya later!" she bubbled.

Wait till Madusa hears this! [hears what?] thought Angel as she walked over to Dustin, Rick, and Scott. They talked for a while, then Dustin had to elave. He said good-bye to everyone and congratulated his friends tha Steiners, who congratulated him back. Soon after that, the party ended. Angel and the Steiners traded phone numbers so they could stay in touch. Sting thanked her for the cookies and she thanked him for inviting her [compelling drama here].

As angel drove home, she felt better than she had felt in a long time. She hoped this happy streak would last.

NOTES

1) Let me just tell you how convinced I was that Boyz II Men's rendition of "In the Still of the Night" was going to get my generation into oldies: super convinced. Oh well. And maybe I'm a curmudgeon, but I still think the 5 Satins' version is better.

2) So apparantly, Scott is of the same mindset as our pristine Angel when it comes to amorous relations. I really don't know who is the most ridiculous when it comes to sex: Angel, Scott, or Rick. Ok, yes I do: it's Rick. Angel's at least got her weird notion of "morality," which makes zero sense to me, because it doesn't seem like her "morality" derives from any sort of religious ideal or, say, the fact that she has some sort of super-communicable STI that can be spread even with condoms. I mean, if you don't want to have sex before you get married, whatever, that's cool, but saying it's because of "morality" really doesn't explain anything, unless, of course, you're 13 and don't know how to understand or express your burgeoning ideas about sexuality, so you make your fan fiction characters equally clueless. Aaaanyhoo, Rick is out of control obsessed with Scott's sex life. Maybe if Scott were, like, a teenager? But they're two grown men! Yikes! WTF is your problem, Rick? You're seriously creepy. Scott, man, make your own decisions!

3) Marie sounds pretty intense. Hmm ... Marie ... where have we heard that name before?????

4) Angel gives the dumbest advice ever. I'm pretty sure you could get more insight from a dollar store greeting card.

5) Why isn't Alex invited to any parties? Or any other girls, for that matter?

Wow. Ok.

So Angel seems like she's in a pretty good place right now. She's getting cried on left and right, she's buried the hatchet with Missy Hyatt. But you know what she's missing? That's right .... lurv! Will she find it when she meets ... Chapter 12 - Bobby's New Partner? Tune in next time to find out!

Chapter 3: Sting’s Party

Welcome back to another action-packed chapter of the life and times of the world's least interesting protagonist. Hold on to your red bell peppers, it's ...

Chapter 3: Sting’s Party

Although Angelica hardly ever fussed about what to wear [which nurse’s uniform is a purer white?], she found herself doing just that now. She had never been on the cutting edge of fashion, she always just bought comfortable clothes she thought looked nice on her. [what an iconoclast]

She finally settled on an apricot tee-shirt with a slight v-neck, and black denim shorts. She tucked the shirt into the shorts and puffed it out. She left on her pair of white open toe sandals and tied her hair into a French braid. [HAWT]

She seldom wore makeup, but when she was little, she had to wear nail polish to stop her from biting her fingernails. Even though she was completely over that habit, Angel still liked to paint her fingernails, and sometimes her toenails too. She removed all of the neon–green nailpolish she had applied on her fingernails and put on some clear. After a final check in her half-length mirror, she was ready to go. [woman, a full-length mirror would have perhaps convinced you to change your shoes, at the very least]

When she arrived at the party, the music was on loud. She wrinkled her nose in distaste. She didn’t like modern music at all [autobiography, here we go]. Doo-wop was her thing. She’d take the Mello-Kings or the Passions over the Red Hot Something Peppers or that guy, Iced Tea, or Lemonade, or whoever.

Sting answered the doorbell. When she looked in she recognized a few faces. Dustin Rhodes, Missy Hyatt, Marc Bagwell, and Ron Simmons. Oh, there was 2 Cold Scorpio!

“Hi Sting!” she said, handing him a box and hugging him.

“Hi Angel. Glad you could make it! What’s in the box?” he inquired, shaking it.

“Chocolate chip cookies. Hope you don’t mind. I baked them this afternoon.”

“Thanks a lot. I’m sure they’re delicious.” He said happily. “You know, I can’t remember the last time I had a home made chocolate chip cookie” [me either. Mmm.]

He led her into the party and introduced her to the people she didn’t know. The last people they came to were Rick and Scott, the Steiner Brothers.

“Rick, Scott, I’d like you to meet a friend of mine, Angelica Kerris, and if you’ll excuse me, the chips need refilling. See ya later.”

“So, Angelica, what do you do in the WCW?” asked Scott.

“I’m a first-aid nurse. I used to work in the WWF, but, uh …. I ran into some …. uh, problems.”

“Got a nickname, Angelica?”

“Angel.”

“Can I call you Angie?” asked Rick.

“Sure.” She said smiling. She looked at them both. She had seen them before, in pictures and on TV, but in person, they were incredible. Scot was tall and very muscular. He had shoulder length brown hair and brown eyes. His older brother, Rick, was a little bit shorter and stouter. He had brown eyes and short brown hair. He had a moustache that extended down to the base of his chin. They were both clad and T-shirts and jeans, but Rick was also wearing one of those headbands that had springy antennae on them. [oh, what a nut!]. Both seemed nice.

Scott thought that Angelica, no, he’d call her Ang, was very pretty, Nice figure, gorgeous blue eyes, beautiful blonde hair. If he didn’t already have a girlfriend …… stop thinking that, Scott, he told himself. Do you want this thing to work out with Marie or not?

Unlike Scott, Rick took his first impressions of people from their personalities. Rick thought that Angie was pretty friendly, although she was a bit … normal. Wait a minute … scratch that …

“Hey, great toenail polish.” He said sincerely.

Quickly, Angel looked down at her feet. She was still wearing her neon green toenail polish! [OMG! party fowl!]

“Oh … uh, thanks. I didn’t quite plan to be wearing it, but thanks anyway.”

“Hey, it’s you, Angie.” He said, laughing.

Scott rolled his eyes. “I’ll see you guys around later.” He said.

“Where ya goin’ Scotty?” asked Rick.

“I’m just gonna mingle for a while” he said, walking away.

“Hey, here comes Dustin!”

Dustin Rhodes walked up to both of them. His blonde hair was combed back. His blue eyes glittered. Jeans and a T-shirt covered his muscular, yet lanky figure.

“Hey Rick, hey Angel.” He gave Rick a quick hug and bent over and kissed her lightly on the cheek. Rick raised his eyebrows. Angel elbowed him and giggled. “I see you two have met.”

“Yeah. Hey, Sorry to cut this conversation short, but I’m gonna find Scott. Catch you guys later.”

“Bye!” said Angel. It was amazing. She had just met him about ten minutes ago and she already felt like an old friend. [huh?]

“Angel, can we go and talk somewhere?”

“Sure, Dustin, is everything ok?”

“Well, not really.” [uh oh … I smell something that rhymes with flegregious flying] They both walked to a couch in a corner away from the loud noise of the party. “You see, I’ve gotta talk about it to someone, or I feel like I’m going to explode. You understand?” They sat down.

“I’ve got the same feelings. So what’s wrong?”

“Well,” he said with a sigh, “You probably know by now that Barry [that’s his tag team partner, Barry Windham] and I have been going through some rough times. We’ve had our share of fights before, and some of them were pretty bad, but we always seemed to bounce back from them. This time, though, we’re not bouncing very well. The fights just get worse and worse. We can hardly look at e ach other without one of us starting something up. It hasn’t gotten physical, but I’m really afraid that one day it might. Barry and I were closer than brothers. I don’t’ want to see our friendship end like this. to think of all the good times we’ve had …” he looked off and his eyes clouded with tears. “I’m sorry.”

“Don’t be.” Said Angel, putting her hand on his shoulder. “Dustin, your friendship with Barry isn’t over. Something is bound to happen to change things.” She said softly.

“You’re right, Angel, I just hope that that something isn’t bad.” He hugged her and thanked her, and then went off to see if Scorpio wanted to give him that dance lesson he had promised now [good golly]. Somehow, Angel just couldn’t picture Dustin dancing like 2 Cold Scorpio.

Meanwhile, Rick had finally caught up with Scotty. He was in the kitchen, on the telephone. Rick caught up the tail end of their conversation.

“Marie … Marie, stop it! You know how I …. Fine then! Allright … me too … OK bye.”

“You guys get into another fight?” Asked Rick, spring antennae bobbing.

“Yeah” Scott said shaking his head and exhaling in disgust. “I just called her to ask her what time to pick her up and we got into that!”

“What do you mean? What were you two fighting about?”
“Oh nothing that big,” he said quickly.

Angel decided to check out the munchies. She grabbed a red bell pepper stick. They were her favorite veggie. Oh wait, they had seeds. They were a fruit. While she thought about it, Missy Hyatt came up to the table to grab some Chips.

“Hi Missy.” Angel said.

“Oh … hi.” Said an unethused and frosty-sounding Missy Hyatt. She quickly moved away from Angel. Geez! What’s with her? She thought. Marcus was walking towards her.

“Hey, Angel. Come here often?” asked Marc in his rich, melodious voice. She was so beautiful, especially tonight. Her outfit hugged every curve [?!? She’s wearing a t-shirt tucked into black denim shorts!]. Her long legs tapered into white sandals and …

“Hey … nice toenail polish” he said sarcastically.

“Thanks” she said sourly. She looked down at her watch and frowned. “Sorry to cut this short, Marc, but Bill Watts wants me at the Missouri Omni by 7:00 and if I’m gonna make it there, I’d better leave now.”

“Wait—before you go. There’s something I’ve got to give you.”

He drew her near to him and kissed her passionately.

“Bye.” He said.

“See you later!” said Angel. That was one of the most incredible moments of my life, thought Angel as she said goodbye to everyone. Marcus prayed that Missy didn’t see that. She’d kill him! [dunt dunt DUNNNN!]

NOTES:

1) when will Angel stop marveling over the fact that the wrestlers she meets are muscular? They’re EFFING WRESTLERS.

2) Scott has a girlfriend named Marie … hmm … where have we read that name before? Look out, Scott!

3) What kind of a craptacular party was this? There are chips, cookies, and red bell peppers, but no booze. Also, it’s in full swing well before 7 PM? This sounds like a birthday party for … wait for it … a middle schooler. I was so lame that I couldn’t even imagine parties cooler than the ones I’d been to in seventh grade. Actually, now that I think about it, I got invited to some rockin’ bar mitzvahs that put Sting’s fete to shame. Shout out to Adam Glassman … yours was the best. Here’s to hoping that your name is common enough that no one googles you and comes across this page. Potential employers of Adam Glassman, please know that he’s the smartest person I’ve ever met, and you should totally hire him even though he invited the author of this pabulum to his bar mitzvah.

COMING UP NEXT: Angel and Bobby have a hideously boring conversation in which we learn more of her fascinating backstory and she rewrites history a little bit. Dustin treats us to an extended monologue in which he discusses the details of his troubles with Barry. Odds of him holding himself together enough to manage not to cry: 0 to 1. Join us next time for …. Chapter 4: The Omni

Chapter 13: A Perfect Point of View

(just tuning in? Hello! Please read the introduction first!)

This story marked my first foray into first-person narrative. It also marked my last.

Times I cringed retyping this: 6. Enjoy!

Chapter 13: A Perfect Point of View

“Mr. Perfect, I would like you to meet our lovely new executive consultette, Nightshade.” said Ric Flair to me, Mr. Perfect. In stepped a woman with black, shiny hair that hung down a little above her waist. She had deep, intriging green eyes that caut your attention immediatly. Nightshade … isn’t that a poisonous fungus. If this woman is a poisonous fungus I’ll quit my job and become a monk.
Sunny Marie Tyler meet Curt Hennig.” said Ric
The beautiful stranger cringed at her name.
“Please don’t call me that. Look at me. Do I look Sunny?”
She was wearing a slightly off the shoulder dress with a long skirt. [a dress and a skirt?] it was black and did not fit her first name at all.
“Can’t say that you do, dear Can’t say that you do, look, why don’t you two kids get to know each other I am going to find Bobby.” halfway out the door Ric Flair stopped. “Almost forgot, Nightshade—gimmie a ‘Whoooo!” he said
“Whooo!” replied the consultette in her sultry, silky voice.
Ric Flair praised her “Whoo” and left us alone I smiled at her and she smiled back. Her smile melted my entire inside.
<><><> [I drew weird shapes to signify a perspective shift]
Oh god, he’s smiling at me. I think he likes me – Smile back-good-hey, what’s wrong with him liking me? He’s nice looking. Not as gorgeous as that guy I had last week …. but not bad [look out, Mr. P. she’s no good!]
<><><>
“You can call me N.S. if you’d like.” she told me [yes, that flows off the tongue much nicer]
“Okay.” I said “You can call me Mr. P. If you want.”
“So, Mr. P. where are you from?”
“Minneapolis, Minnesota. And you?”
“New York, New York.”
“Ah, the big apple.” I said searching for something good to say.
“Yeah, I grew up on the sounds of gunshots in the night.”
“Wasn’t that a Frank Sinatra song?”
She laughed. Her laugh was just about the sweetest thing in the world
<><><>
Hey, he’s pretty funny. I could get along with this guy O.K.
<><><>
“Oh, Do you like the Big Band era, I love Bobby Darin!” she told/asked me. “I’m an oldies fan” [what a coincidence, so was I. I obsessively collected Frankie Valli songs. But that’s a whole ‘nother blog]
“Um, not really, I’m an Elton John man myself.” [how is that not oldies?] Why didn’t I lie?
“So, why don’t you show me around?” she asked me
I gave her the grand tour. Passing by Anjel’s old room kind of made a lump in my throat but I pushed it down and moved on [ooh, so close to more egregious crying!]
“And we complete the tour at your room.” which was across the hall from mine –yes!
I handed her the keys and her extra set, which she gave to ME!!!
“Hey, who else do I know?” she explained
<><><>
Oh, what the heck, if you want to know what kind of a guy he was I should go ahead and do it. – Shoop Shoop!
<><><>
Right then she kissed me. WOW! Not just a little baby kiss either, right on the lips. WOW! I hope I returned it effectively.
<><><>
Ooh! Hose me down! Not bad at all! Pretty good actually. OK, OK, Fantastic.
<><><>
She is hot stuff!
Later in the evening, while I was in the dressing room I share with Bobby, I thought about what happened today, and realized that I could not wait for tomorrow.

TO BE CONTINUED …

Notes:

1) Again with the misconception of dressing rooms. It’s like I thought they all lived and worked in one big building instead of traveling around the country and staying in hotel rooms.

2) I wasn’t sure of Mr. Perfect’s exact age, but I do remember thinking that he was about 30. So … I wasn’t trying to pretend he was 14 or anything; I just assumed that this was the way 30-year old men thought. That being said, being close to 30 myself, I wouldn’t mind if I kissed a guy and had him react by thinking “WOW!” in all caps. I would, however, be alarmed if he was amazed that it was on the lips.

3) Re: the oldies. I think I’ve described my obsession with wrestling effectively. I was obsessed to a similar degree with Frankie Valli and the 4 Seasons. I had a ridiculously large collection of their albums. I think I had songs they didn’t even remember recording. Not only did I collect them, I made alphabetical, color-coded lists of their songs. And this was before I had a computer, so any time I got a new song, I would have to redo the list. I then made alphabetic mix tapes and listened to them over and over. But I digress. So because I only listened to oldies, I had no clue what was happening in the world of modern music. Thus, all of my characters only listen to oldies. The “Shoop Shoop” line is a reference to “It’s in His Kiss (The Shoop Shoop Song)” by Betty Everett (later recorded by Cher), to which the lyrics are: “If you wanna know if he loves you so, it’s in his kiss.” Good golly. Just … good golly.

Coming up next: The continuation of “A Perfect Point of View,” in which Nightshade begins to show her true colors. That hussy.
