Chapter 20: Abandoned

Well, I promised one today and you're getting one today. Hope this doesn't dampen anyone's holiday spirits. Take a deep breath for ...

Chapter 20: Abandoned

Teusday [why couldn’t I spell this word?] came and went. Chris was halfway around the world, and Angel was lonely. First Bobby, then Madusa, now Chris. And if things weren’t bad enough, her other friends, Sting, 2 Cold Scorpio, Ricky Steamboat, and even Dustin seemed to be avoiding her. She would greet Sting in the hall and receive no more than a nod. Her conversations with Ricky were brisk and abrupt, and Scorpio simply ignored her. [anyone here blame them? anyone?]

She did not want to mention any of this to Chris for fear of bringing him down. He was having a great time in Japan, and she wouldn’t want to spoil it for the world.

There was a pretty big card tonight. Sting versus Sid Vicious, Dustin Rhodes versus Rick Rude, and numerous others.

In Sting’s match, he sustained a broken finger. She gave him a splint and wrapped it painstakingly. He muttered a thanks and left quickly.

Through the rest of the night wrestlers who were supposedly her friends continued to avoid her and even give her nasty looks at times.

She was very upset by now. All of her friends were either gone or mad at her for some unknown reason. She couldn’t think of why any of them – much less all of them –could be angry at her. She needed someone to talk to – the only problem was that there was noone she could talk to.

The card ended, and Angel was still clueless as to why the world had it in for her. Figuring she still might have a friend in Dustin, she knocked on his dressing room door.

He opened his door and his expressioned [sic] darkened when he saw her.

“Angel, I’m busy, come back later, OK?”

“Please, Dustin, I need to talk to you.” Tears were close.

He made no reply, only looked away.

“Why is everyone doing this to me?” she cried. Tears slid down her cheeks and she turned away from him. “Why won’t anyone talk to me?” she proceeded to leave but Dustin grabbed her shoulder.

“You really don’t know, do you?”

She shook her head.

“Angel, Marcus told us why you two broke up.”

“What do you mean? You already know how we broke up.” She was confused.

Dustin paused to think.

“What did Marcus tell you?”

“He said that … Oh, Angel, I’m so sorry for believing him.”

“What did he say?” her voice was less kind now, Anger boiled insider of her. She didn’t think she’d ever felt more hate in her life for anyone than she did right now for Marcus [wow].

“Marcus told us that you had broken up with him because you were tired of him and wanted Chris.” [seriously? That was it? Seriously?!?]

“Angel had a feeling that Dustin was softening Marcus’ words.

“Please forgive me, Angel. I never should have believed that you would do something like that. [like what???] Angel, Angel. You Okay?”

“I’m just fine.” She said through clenched teeth. She closed her eyes and breathed deeply. “I’m not angry with you, Dustin.” She said noticing Dustin’s look of worry. He eased at her words. “It’s that … that … poor excuse for a human being, Marcus.” [ouch!]

“Calm down, Angel.”

“Calm down!!?!! CALM DOWN! You expect me to calm down after the hell that jerk has put me through?” [Angel said the H word! She must be mad!]

“What’re you doing to do about Marcus?”

“Nothing.”

“What!?!”

“Once Marcus sees that all of my friends and I are together, he’ll know that his plan failed, and anyway, revenge is useless.”

Dustin shook his head. “You’re an incredible lady, Angelica Kerris.” [gak]

Angel smiled faintly. “Thanks, Dustin. But I’ve still got a problem.”

“What?”

“You’re my only friend left in this world.” [overdramatize much?]

“Don’t worry. I’ll fix that. I’ll broadcast your innocence over the radio if I have to.”

In a few hours, Dustin reclaimed all of Angel’s friends for her. She wanted to repay him in some way, but he insisted that she could just call it even for all of the times she had helped him.

NOTES:

1) Oh wow. Wow wow wow wowwity wow wow. WOW.

2) Sid Vicious! Before he was Sid Justice and Sycho Sid. Good times. I remember reading that in his WM 13 match against the Undertaker he crapped his pants. I googled it and found this website. Sooo awesome: http://sidcrapspants.ytmnd.com/

Chapter 19: The Letter

Whee! The holidays are upon us. I'll be posting one today, one tomorrow, and then nothing for about a week. Got to go visit the family and whatnot. So today's may be short, but tomorrow's will make up for it ... because it's really, really stupid.

Excelsior!

Chapter 19: The Letter

It had been almost a month since Bobby and Madusa had left. Angel was sitting in her house, reading Nightmares and Dreamscapes, Stephen King's latest novel. The phone rang and she screamed.

"Hello?"

"Hey Sunshine! Why so out of breath?"

"Chris! I was just erading this story about living teeth, and the phone frightened me."

"A story about what?"

"Nevermind. What's up?"

"Guess what!"

"What?"

"I got a letter today from All Japan Wrestling. THey want me to go on a 3 week tour!"

"That's great!!! But what'll I do without you?"

"Don't worry, it's only 3 weeks. I'll call you every day."

"Oh Chris, I'm so happy for you!"

"I leave on Tuesday."

"Oh, go ahead and dampen my good spirits."

"I just did."

"Can you come over tonight?"

"Depends. Where are you?"

"Biloxi, Missouri, I think." [??? I thought she was home]

"Great! Me too! I'll come by after tonight's card."

"I'll be watiing"

"What hotel are you staying at?"

"Cascade Inn. [that sounds like a place on the side of the road where you can pay by the hour.] Chris, if you haven't the faintest idea where I am, then how in the world did you get my number?"

"Through the WCW Front Offices. THe seceratary is my cousin's friend."

"The weird one?"

"Yup. Well, get back to the terrible teeth. The dreaded dentures. The chaotic chompers, the ..."

"I get the point."

"Love you, Sunshine."

"I love you too, Chris."

---

NOTES:

1) So Angel’s reading Nightmares and Dreamscapes? What a coincidence! I was reading the same thing at the time! This makes it the fall of 1993. I am 13 at this point and had been reading King since I was 9. Yes, I started reading Stephen King when I was in fourth grade. My mother recommended them to me. I had a lot of trouble sleeping. But, on the plus side, it toughened me to the point where scary movies and books have very little effect on me these days. I can’t say the same for my husband, who actually hugged a ticket taker out of fear after watching 28 Weeks Later. Well then … back to Angel. What is she doing reading this? I really see her as more of a Nora Roberts fan. Unless Nora Roberts writes salacious stuff. I wouldn't know.

2) So this was a short chapter, but not a useless one ... I needed to get Chris off the scene for a little while, because I had no clue what to write about if it involved a happy couple (hence Marty's persistent flu), but it couldn't be anything too drastic.

3) Don't even try to understand why Angel is home but not, that they are in the same city but different hotels, that one is working but one is not, and that neither of them knows where the other is. It's not worth it.

Contrivance, revenge, dumb crap, shouting in ALL CAPS, platonic hugs, tears, and garbage ... tune in tomorrow for ...

Chapter 18: Monday's Card

Welcome back, fearless and iron-stomached readers. I've got some free time on my hands, therefore you've got ...

Chapter 18 – Monday’s Card

“Hey, Ang,” greeted Madusa, walking through Angelica’s door in a stunning blue sequined evening gown.

“Hey, Duce. What’s up? You look fabulous.”

“Thanks!” Madusa turned in a circle to show off her dress. “I bought it especially for tonight. Rick’s got a big match tonight.”

“Oh. What’s Paul E. up to now that Bobby’s gone?” (Bobby Eaton was a priemier member of the Dangerous Alliance).

“To be honest, the Alliance is falling apart. First Arn, now Bobby. He was good friend of yours, wasn’t he?”

“Yeah. I miss him.”

“I never really knew him that well. He never really liked me, so I never really liked him. He saw me as a glorified valet [as opposed to what you actually were, which was … uhm … a glorified valet]. I didn’t like that either, but most people I knew said that he was really nice.”

“He was.”

Madusa looked up at the clock, then exclaimed: “Oh! Ang, I’ve got to go! Talk to you later.” She gave her friend a hug, then ran out.

The card came to its final 2 matches. Marcus Alexander Bagwell and 2 Cold Scorpio would take on Chris Benoit and Stunning Steve Austin. 10 minutes before the match, Chris popped into Angel’s office.

“Hey, Sunshine.” Chris greeted, using the nickname he had recently given her [oh, barf].

“Hey Chris.” They kissed and clasped each other’s hands.

“What’s up?” he asked.

“Nuttin’ honey.” She said with a smile [remember those commercials?] “Kicking butt tonight?”

“You bet. Me and Steve against Scorpio and Marcus.”

With the mention of Marcus, Angel frowned.

“Don’t worry, Ma’am.” Said Chris in a Southern Drawl. “After I take to ‘im, I’ll reckon he won’t be botherin’ you no more.” [I take back what I said about liking Chris a little]. He tipped an imaginary hat to her.

She laughed and kissed him goodbye, telling him to be careful.

--

The match was long and grueling. Any time Chris was hit, Angel cringed. He and Steve won the match, both unscathed. But Marcus’ story was different.

Chris loved Angel more than anyone else in the universe, so anyone who hurt her was better off dead. Angel noted that even the announcers, Tony Schiavone and Jesse Ventura, thought Chris was overly aggressive towards Marcus.

“Marc, Man, that ankle looks sprained. You’d better see the nurse,” said Scorpio, helping Marc to his feet.

“No way,” said Marcus through clenched teeth. With the help of 2 Cold, he stood. His ankle throbbed and he nearly fell again.

“What?”

“I said, No Way! Angel’s on duty.”

“Marcus, just ‘cuz of what happened …”

“No way. I’m fine.” He hobbled back to his dressing room.

“Fine man, your body. What’s up with that guy Chris? Man, he’s got somethin’ against you.”

Marcus grimaced in pain. “Angel’s new boyfriend.” He spat out the words in disgust.

“Can’t you let go of her, man? It was your fault you guys broke up anyway.” [seriously]

“I know that. But I begged her forgiveness. I told her that I loved her. And what did she do? She threw me out!”

Scorpio sighed and shook his head. Sometimes his best friend disgusted him. [take a number]
--

Angel watched in horror and disbelief as yet another one of her best friends departed the federation. Paul E. Dangerously fired Madusa. First, he insulted her, and the entire female race, then he fired her, then she planted a savate kick to the back of his skull.

NOTES:

1) Re: Madusa and Paul E. - Yes, this was an actual storyline, down to the savate kick. I ate it up. I even wrote her some fan mail telling her that she was my hero. I never heard back from her … perhaps that is why I decided she needed to exit, stage fired. Ta-ta, Angel’s one and only female friend. I’m sorry you never got your share of tears and hugs. Also, Paul E. Dangerously lived in Edgemont, NY, which wasn’t far from where I grew up. I looked him up in the phone book and occasionally left messages on his answering machine. Not a lot of messages … I didn’t want to be a nuisance. Just one a month or so. I don’t really remember what I said in them … I’m sure they were immensely witty, though.

2) Marcus. Dude. Get over it. You are better off without her.

Ok, so you’re probably wondering where all of this Marcus crap is headed. It’ll take 2 chapters for us to get there, but get there we will. Imagine the stupidest, least dramatic revenge you can think of. Now make it stupider and less dramatic. Now you’ve got an inkling. But first ….

I need a way to get Chris out of the picture temporarily. How does this happen? Find out in … chapter 19 – The Letter.

Chapter 17: A Departure

Yesterday's chapter was so lame that I feel like I owe y'all one today. That and I have a sinus infection and don't feel like doing work.

As a result, today you get to enjoy the return of effusive tears and overzealous hugging in ...

Chapter 17: A Departure

"She loves me, Bobby. She said so last night. I've never been this happy before. It's the most incredible feeling in the world," said Chris jubilantly. [seriously, how many guys say things like this to other guys?]

"That's great." Bobby was sincere, but his voice was distracted.

"Soemthin' up, Bob?" asked Chris, using a favorite expression. [?]

"Hmm? Oh, no. Sorry. It really is great."

"Everything allright?"

"Yeah. No. Listen, Chris. Do you know Jimmy Cornette?"

"From Smoky Mountain Wrestling?"

"Yeah. We've been friends for as long as I can remember. Well, he, uh ... he asked me to rejoin my old partner Stan Lane and be a member of his Heavenly Bodies."

"Wow. What are you going to do?"

"I don't know. You and I have come so far. We can go for the titles. But a chance to get back with Stan and Jim. Well, it's up to you Chris."

"Bobby, this is your decision, your career, your life! Why ask me, eh?" [look, he's Canadian!]

"You're my partner. This is your career too."

"Well. What do you want to do?"

"Would you mind at all if I went with Jimmy? Because if you do then ..."

"Then by all means, go with Jimmy."

"Really?"

"Sure."

"This means a lot to me, Chris. Thank you."

They shook hands and hugged warmly.
---

About 2 weeks later, the papers were signed. In another week, Bobby would be a Smoky Mountain wrestler. There was only one problem. He had put off telling Angelica, probably his best friend, that he was leaving. [how was this not his first priority?!]. He would miss her more than anyone else. How could he break it to her?

Bobby knocked on the door of Angelica's infirmary. She opened her door. [I've mastered this segue] He couldn't bear to look at the bright smile she almost always wore.

"Why so glum, Bobby?" asked Angel, expression darkening.

"No reason."

"I know you better than that. Now if you dont' want to talk, just say so, but don't say nothing is wrong."

"I think you know me better than I do."

"I wouldn't go that far. So what's up?"

"Angelica ... I ... uh ... I don't know how to put this. I'm moving to Smoky Mountain Wrestling on Tuesday."

"You're leaving? In 2 days?"

"Yeah."

"Bobby! You're my best friend! How could you just leave?"

"Hey, Angelica, this is my career."

"You don't have to get defensive [uhm, you don't have to shout, either]. This is such short notice. Didn't they tell you before that you were being moved?"

"Yes."

"Why didn't you tell me?"

"I ... I couldn't?"

"Why not?"

"I didn't want to hurt you."

"It hurts now."

"It hurts me too."

Angel turned away from him, her lip quivering, tears brimming in her eyes.

"I dont konw what to say, Angelica, I made a mistake. I should've told you before. It was just that ... I was afraid I'd hurt you, and I'm hurting you even more now. Oh Angelica ... I can't ..."

Bobby turned his back to Angelica's. He felt the tears sting. A little sob escaped.

"Oh, Bobby, don't," said Angel softly. She went over to him and wrapped her arms around him.

"I never meant to hurt you," he whispered.

"I know. It's just such a shock." They embraced for a long time, silent tears falling from both of ther eyes. [hurl. also, this wording makes it sound like they both each possess one eye.]

"I love you, Bobby."

"I love you too, Angelica," Bobby whispered.

For the next two days, Angel and Bobby were inseperable. When it was time for Bobby to leave, they promised to keep in touch. In teh days following, Chris and Angel comforted each other. They had both lost a good friend. [WTF? he's not effing dead!]

NOTES:

1) Smoky Mountain Wrestling! Before it was just a developmental league for WWF, SMW was a small indie federation based in Tennessee. I liked Jim Cornette and his tennis racquet quite a bit. Wikipedia suggests that I've got my chronology wrong re: Chris and Bobby's tag team career and Bobby's jump to SMW, but I'll just chalk that one up to artistic license.

2) Why is moving such a monumental tragedy to these people? Staying in touch is not impossible. Although, judging by the fact that Angel never mentions--let alone calls, writes, or telegrams--her old BFF Mr. Perfect suggests that moving to a new federation is indeed akin to death.

3) How did Angel not get any inkling about Bobby leaving in 2 weeks? Didn't Chris mention something in one of their all-night talking/oldies-listening/not making out sessions? I think these two have a serious communication issue.

Well then ...

I'll bet you're wondering what would happen if Chris faced Marcus in a match. What's that? You're sure it's going to be dramatic, intense, and action-packed? Uhh ... keep wondering ... and tune in next time for ...

Chapter 16: Deeper in Love

When we last left our witless troupe of characters, Angel and Chris had just gone on THE BEST DATE EVER, but had somehow resisted any sorts of egregious declarations. Will that trend continue? You can cheat by looking at the tags or you can read for yourselves in ...

Chapter 16: Deeper in Love

Over the next few weeks, Angel and Chris' relationship grew stronger.

They spent one night walking on the moonlit shore of Lake Sinclair in Georgia, one night at a festival in Louisiana, and many more magic nights just talking.

Tongiht, Angel would be bringing her doo-wop records over to Chris' house [oh, this is bad]. Chris was a hard-core Frankie Vallie fan, [oh, this is BAD] but he was willing to listen to what Angel liked.

He was terribly in love with her. She was on his mind every minute of the day. He had never felt this way about anyone else before. He was very happy that she had all but forgotten about his sneeze-a-thon.
---
Angel rang Chris' doorbell. He answered it and she greeted him with a kiss.

"Tonight, you're going to meet the Mello-Kings, soar with the Skyliners, float with the Flamingoes, you'll hear some songs from the Sheilds, we'll dance to the Diamonds, you'll learn to love Little Anthony, youll find delight in the Dubs, and, of course, I have to Play the Passions." [oh, that was awful.]

"You should've been a DeeJay, Angel."

She threw her head back and laughed. "I'm very glad I didn't become one."

"Why?"

"I would've never met the great friends I met as a nurse, but most importantly," she said coyly, wrapping her arms around his neck, "I woudl haev never met you." She punctuated her sentence with a long, passionate kiss." [Oh wow. I feel queasy.]

"Believe me, Angel. I'm just as glad as you. You're an incredible woman. I am the luckiest guy in the whole world."

"And I am the luckiest woman. You mean more to men than just about anyone else on Earth, Chris."

Angel did not add the 3 little words that Chris wanted to hear more than anything else. In truth, Angel was afraid. In a deep, dark part of her soul, she feared that she could not trust Chris with her love, as she had done before with Marcus and Marty. What if he hurt her? How could her heart take it? She had to wait until the right time. She only hoped that there would be a right time.
---

They spent teh whole night listening to the doo-wop melodies. Chris had to admit taht some were catchy. He especially liked At My Front Door by the El Dorados and I Wonder Why by Dion and the Belmonts. [my sincere apologies to all living members of both groups. Dead ones too].

Angel had saved her favorite slow songs for last. Tonite, Tonite, Just to be With You, Tears on my Pillow, I Don't Have You, The Closer You Are, Long Lonely Nights, Teardrops, Lovers Never Say Goodbye, I Believe, and My Desire [you can see a lot of erase marks in this paragraph. I was apparantly really devoted to selecting the right songs].

By the time the Mello-Kings started singing Tonite, Tonite, Chris and Angel were exhausted from dancing and they crashed on the couch. She snuggled up close to him and he wrapped his arms around her tightly. Chris knew the words to Tears on My Pillow and sang along softly, in perfect harmony.

"Your voice is beautiful, Chris."

"So are you." [GOSH. We get the point already!]

She pressed even closer to him, feeling his warmth [...!]. She closed her eyes and let the music and magic of the night flow through her body.

The Closer You Are began to play, and every bad feeling she had left in her dissolved.

"I love you, Chris," she whispered.

"I love you too, Angelica."

NOTES

1) Hooooo boy. Check your blood sugar, folks.

2) What's that you say? Fuzzy, why weren't you one of the cool kids in middle school? Gee, I have no idea.

Now I know what you're thinking. Where's the drama? The tears? The egregious declarations of platonic love? Well ... if you're missing all that, then you won't want to miss ...

Chapter 15: Letting Go

Sorry for the long break there ... coming down off of turkey and fretting about my lack of job offers and whatnot. Anyone know anyone looking to hire people who will transcribe horrible fan fiction from the early '90's? No?

Anyhoo ... we've got another crapfest on tap here. This chapter is chock-full of bizarre sanctimoniousness, insipid advice and non-confrontational confrontations. Sound enticing?

Chapter 15: Letting Go

"Hey Bob," said Chris as he entered the St. Paul Palace dressing room.

"Hey. How was your date."

"Well, it started out horrible. First I got us lost, and we had to go back to her place and order pizza, but the Pizza Parlor was closed, so she had to make sandwiches. Then, as if things weren't bad enough, I had a major allergy attack."

"From what?"

"Her cat."

"That's rough."

"You said it. Things brightened up after that, though. We stayed up and talked for about five hours [do all of my characters carry stopwatches around with them?]. Then we kissed an incredible kiss and I went home."

"That's good."

"I hope she thought so too."

-------- [woah. that was thrilling]

Angel was enjoying her day off. Being the head nurse was grueling, but rewarding.

She couldn't get Chris off of her mind. Their conversation had been terrific, but that kiss, that kiss had put him over the top.

The phone rang. She answered it. The voice on the other end was frantic and depressed [can it be both?], but unmistakible.

"Scotty? What's the matter?"

"Ang, Marie and I are back together."

"That's great! So what's wrong?"

"Last night, we went all the way." [wow. wow.]

"Really? How is Rick taking it?" [seriuosly? 1) why are you assuming he knows and 2) why are you assuming that it's any of his effing business and 3) is that seriously your first reaction? woah.]

"Oh Ang. He won't talk to me. He has no respect for me anymore. I know this might be putting you out of your way, but please, will you come talk to him?" [WTF?]

"Of course. Where are you?"

"Minneapolis. The Degado hotel. Room 614."

"I'll be there."

"Thank you. I'll never forget this, Ang."

----

Angel knocked on room 614's door. Rick Steiner opened it.

"Angie!?! What are you doing here?"

"Rick, can we talk?"

"Sure. Sit down."

They sat. "Rick, Scotty told me ..."

"Sorry, Angie, I dont' want to talk about Scott. So if Scott sent you here to do that, please leave."

"Rick, your brother loves you more than anyone in the universe."

"Sure." he said sarcastically.

"Do you know how upset he is?"

"Does he know how upset I am?"

"Yes. Rick, your respect means the world to Scott."

"Well he sure isn't earning it."

"Scott is a grown man. He can decide what he wants to do with his life." [AMEN]

"Then why didn't he come to me himself to talk?"

"Would you have listened to him?"

Rick was silent. Angel clasped his hand.

"Rick, you've got to let go of Scott. He knows what he's doing. He loves you."

Rick looked down. "It's hard to let go, Angie."

"I know."

"Where is Scotty? I want to talk to him."

"In his room." [screw carpooling, Amy - they're not even sharing hotel rooms!]

"Thank you, Angie."

Rick got up and left the room. Angel followed, but did not go into Scott's room. She told Rick to say goodbye to Scott for her, and left.

Scott was praying that Angelica got through to his brother. His prayers were answered. Rick came in and apologized and they had a long brotherly hug. His problems were over -- for now.

NOTES:

1) Wow. Y'all ... I'm sorry. That was intensely bad.

2) I can't think of a single character who doesn't need a good punch in the solar plexus. Preferably with a fist full of quarters. Isn't that what Scotty Flamingo (later Johnny Polo, later Raven) used as a weapon? I wish my last name were Flamingo.

Chapter 14: Chris and Angel

There's turkey/tofurkey in the oven, Scott and Marie are back together .... Ah, love is in the air. Let's see if I developed any better an idea of what happens on a first date in ...

Chapter 14: Chris and Angel

Chris had never been so nervous in his life. Asking Angel out was hard, but knocking on her door was next to impossible.

Earlier that day, when he had asked her for a date, he knew that if she had said no, his heart would break and he would probably slip into a coma, or maybe move to Zimbabwe. Thank goodness she said yes.

Angel answered her doorbell. She had been very surprised when Chris asked her out. He was cute. He had light brown eyes and soft brown hair. He had high cheekbones and a kind of pointy nose. It was worth a shot. She had to get over Marcus [seriously? you're still hung up on that guy? IT WAS ONE DATE]

"Hi Angel. You look beautiful."

"Thank you, Chris."

He handed her a single white rose.

"Oh! It's beautiful. Thank you." She kissed him on the cheek [trollop!]

"Do you like Italian?"

"Sure!"

"I'm from Alberta, Canada, but my cousin lives around here. He told me about a restaurant. Lucia's. Ever heard of it?"

"No. I just moved here about 6 months ago from Rhode Island. About the only place I know is the pizza parlor down the street."

They got into Chris' car and he began to drive. After about 15 minutes of driving around, Chris started to get nervous. Here he was in a strange town, on a strange street, using directions he recieved from a rather strange cousin. Here he was making a fool of himself in front of the most beautiful girl in the whole world.

"Chris? Is everything OK?"

"Yes. No. Angel, this is embarassing. I'm hopelessly lost. Do you have any idea where we are?"

"I think so. I can get you back to my house and we can order pizza or something."

"Sounds fine." As Chris followed Angel's directions home, he resisted the urge to hit his head against the dashboard.

They arrived at Angel's house around ten-thirty. Angel tried the pizza parlor, but it was closed. Chris was now convinced that Angel thought he was a jerk. Angel got them both cokes and sandwiches.

Chris wanted to help but Angel told him to relax. After letting Wally, Floyd, and Fluffy in, she brought in the food.

Chris wasn't very hungry. Not only did he feel like an idiot, his nose was clogging and his eyes were watering. He sneezed.

"Bless you," said Angel, handing him a tissue [just like old times], which he accepted gratefully. He sneezed a few more times and wiped his burning eyes with a fresh tissue.

"Chris! Are you allright? Oh no! Are you allergic to cats or dogs?"

"Cats" he choked otu between sneezes. She gave him another tissue [why not just give him the box?] and picked up Flufflebunny from her favorite chair.

"Sorry, Fluff-o." She picked up the cat and put her upstairs in a a room, then washed her hands and rushed downstairs.

"Chris, are you allright?"

He nodded.

"You must be pretty allergic to cats."

"Yeah, I can detect one from across the room."

"I noticed."

"Just thinking about one makes my nose itch."

"Then we'll change the subject." Angel laughed.

They stayed up and talked until about 3:30 in the morning. The topics ranged from Chris' cousin to "The Patty Duke Show" [WTF?], from wrestling in Japan to treating a concussion, from Marty Jennetty [on the first date? wow], to Bobby Eaton, from the Mello-Kings to the 4 Seasons. They shared one long, passionate goodnight kiss before Chris left. Angel decided that it was too early to be in love, but it was a hard decision [someone alert the media].

NOTES

1) It's been quite a while since I included a debilitating allergy in a story. Good times. I must've missed the part where Angel removed all of the cat dander from her furniture, thereby instantly alleviating all of Chris' allergy symptoms.

2) Aw, I kind of like Chris. He's way too good for Angel.

3) That's amazing restraint on Angel's part. She's already spent more time with Chris than Marcus and had more interaction with him than Marty. And she's not sure she's in love? Dang.

4) This actually reminds me of my first date with my husband. Except there was no single white rose and instead of having an allergy attack, he had gas. Oh, shades of things to come ...

Anyhoo ...

Coming up next we've got a ridiculous story about Angel inserting herself into Rick and Scott's lives. Rick is just ... absurd. And Angel needs a punch in the solar plexus. I don't know what I was on when I wrote this. See you next time with ... Chapter 15: Letting Go

Chapter 13: Marie

While things are looking potentially sunny for Angel on the romance front, I'm sure we all recall the tension in Scott Steiner's love life. He and his girlfriend Marie got into a huge fight and if it weren't for Angel's sage wisdom, he'd probably have dissolved into a puddle of tears. So what does fate have in store for Scott and Marie? Read on, fearless audience. Read on.

Chapter 13: Marie

The phone in Rick and Scott Steiner's home rang twice before Scott could pick it up. He expected it to be Crystal, his sister [?], but it wasn't.

"Scotty?"

"Marie?"

They both began to speak at the same time.

"Scott, I'm ..."

"Marie, Let's ..."

"You first."

"No, you."

"Ok. Scotty, please forgive me. I can't live without you. I acted like a jerk, exploding at you like that. It was just that ... "

"I know Marie. If I were you, I'd be fed up with me too. I'll try to stop doing it, I promise. [uhm, that's the opposite of the problem, Scott.] Life without you has been sheer hell."

"Come over tonight."

"Sure. I'm free at nine."

"I'll be ready."

"I love you."

"I love you too."

Scotty hung up feeling like his heart would burst. He had never been so happy. Marie was his again.

"What was that all about?" asked Rick, entering the living room.

"It was Marie. I've got a date for tonight."

"Wow. What a co-inky-dink, me too."

"With who? Carla?"

"No. We broke it off. Janie's my date [that's an oblique reference to Dion's song "The Wanderer." Soooo lame]. Black hair, grey eyes."

"Gees! You go through girls faster than water."

"Hey, if at first you don't succeed, try, try again."

"I guess."

"I know." said Rick, opening the door. Both Steiners left for their matches.

As Scott drove to the Lansing Coluseum, he wondered how he would be able to break the news to Rick. He didn't know if he'd be able to stop himself and Marie from going too far.

NOTES:

1) Break the news to Rick? How about telling him to mind his own freaking business. It's your life, dude. And at least you're in a committed (?), loving (?) relationship. He's apparantly a serial dater whose main goal is to prevent his adult brother from having sex? WTF?

2) Yes, this chapter was lame. But it advances an important plot point: Marie and Scott are back together again. What's that? You didn't care one lick about Smarie? I can't imagine why.

Well ... speaking of dynamic relationships ... what's going on with Chris and Angel? I think the next chapter, "Chris and Angel" will touch on that subject. So tune in next time for ... Chapter 14: Chris and Angel. BONUS: The triumphant return of the beloved allergy trope.

Chapter 12: Bobby's New Partner (continued)

When we last left our hapless band of insipid characters, Bobby was recovering from having passed out for some reason, Chris was bleeding to death but pretty much fine, and Angel was being a Helpful Nurse, not to mention so nice and pretty that Chris couldn't help but falling instantly, madly in lurv with her. What could possibly happen next? The wait is over in ...

Chapter 12: Bobby's New Partner (continued)

Angel slowly wheeled Chris into the other first aid station, used solely for extended examination [awww yeah]. Chris' eyes opened slowly.

"Where am I?"

"In a first aid station. I want to get a better look at you." [awww yeah!]

"Is Bobby allright?"

"He's just fine. How do you feel?"

Chris propped himself up on his hands and grimaced. "A little dizzy, and kind of tired." He fell back with an effort.

While she checked out his wound once more, Chris tried to organize his thoughts. First, he was runnign head first into the corner of the steel steps. Then, darkness. When he first woke up, the lights were blinding him, and bobby was out cold. He heard a voice talk about him losing blood. Then more darkness. Now someone had brought him into a first aid station to examine him. His vision was a little fuzzy, but he made out a woman [awww yeah!] with shiny blond hair and blue eyes. A nurse, no doubt.

Suddenly, the events of the day came flooding back to him. This nurse could only be the same stunning beauty he ha met earlier. Angelica, his heart's desire. [oh wow]

"Take it easy for a while. Don't do anything strenuous for the rest of the day." she said, still examining him.

"Ok."

She concluded the examination, applying a fresh bandage.

"I want you to come back here in an hour and a half or so so I can look at you some more." [awww yeah ... wait ... he's supposed to hang around the arena so she can look at his band-aid again?]

"O.K."

Chris wanted to tell her how beautiful she was, how much he needed her, how much he loved her, but all he could seem to say was "OK."

She helped him back to his dressing room, then left to "relieve" Katlin [awww yeah]. Bobby was sitting in a folding chair. Chris sat down next to him on the floor, leaning against the wall, eyes closed.

"You OK Chris?"

He nodded and said "just a little tired. How 'bout you? When I woke up and saw you out cold like that, I nearly screamed."

Bobby smiled a little. "I'm fine thanks. I don't think I've ever seen so much blood." he shuddered. "Let's not talk about this anymore."

"Angel's a wonderful nurse."

"The best there is. Still got a crush on her?"

"Crush? I don't have a crush on her. I'm in love with her, Bobby. She told me to come back in an hour and a half. I'm going to ask her out."

"Good for you." Bobby prayed that Angelica said yes. If she didn't, Chris would be devastated.

NOTES:

1) What? Y'all don't believe in love at first sight? Cynics.

2) This whole setup is so ridiculous, I don't even know what else to say. Let's just move on.

COMING UP NEXT ...

We've got a short chapter next up on the docket, but it's chock full of stupidity AND completely Angel-free. Marie finally calls Scott on the phone ... will those two crazy kids work things out? Will I find a way to sneak a reference to an oldies song into the chapter? Will Rick's behavior dumbfound all? Tune in next time for ... Chapter 13: Marie.

marginalia

As promised, here is a window into my 12-14-year-old brain via the stuff I scrawled all over my notebook. I really wish I had a scanner, because I can't reproduce the doodles.

BOOK I:

-A drawing of a mosquito drinking out of a juicebox that says "BLOOD"

-The word "MORADS" with a list from 1-10. [?]

-A list of 27 Jay and the Americans songs with rating next to it. I also had a helpful number line that explained that 1 was "bad," 5 was "eh," and 10 was "good." I'll let you know that the weak "Yellow Forest" only got a 2, whereas the slammin' "Cara Mia" registered a full 10.

-This poem about oldies. I wrote it in honor of my friend Julia's 12th bday - she also liked oldies - in a card shaped like a boom box. It's to be sung to the tune of Little Caeser and the Romans' "Those Oldies but Goodies."

Those oldies but goodies
Are better than rap
The songs of the 90's
Make me want to nap
Michael Bolton can't sing at all
and Mariah Carey sounds like a duck call
Boyz 2 Men just aren't hot
But at least Madonna's good - NOT
z100 plays nothing but trash
I'd rather listen to CBS in a flash
MC Hammer is a bunch of noise
How about the Platters or the Beach Boys?
So listen to oldies for all of these reasons
Long live The Supremes and the 4 Seasons!

BOOK II

-The lyrics of "Bridge over Troubled Water" only with the subheading "the ballad of Marty and Anjel." I guess this was before I decided that he should have the flu in every chapter.

-A "script" I had to read on the radio. I was a devoted listener of CBS FM, the oldies station in NYC. I called in all the time. I won all kinds of stuff in the contests - everything from concert tickets to a trip to Romania. I even ... wow, I can't believe I'm admitting this ... used to dedicate songs to wrestlers on their birthdays. Yikes. Ok. Anyway. One time I got to be one of the listeners announcing a song on some countdown. I was so flustered that I wrote this down so I wouldn't forget what to say: "Hi Cousin Brucie! This is FuzzyOctopus. I am 12 and a big fan of oldies! Here is number 144, Burning Love by Elvis."

-The names of all the characters on M*A*S*H. I have to be the only sixth grader who would stay up late to watch reruns of M*A*S*H and write wrestling fanfiction.

-The words "Civic Del Sol from Honda." No clue.

BOOK III

The inside cover is labeled "graffitti page." The following things are scrawled in there:

BOBBY LEE (as in, Bobby Lee Eaton) Guiding Light RULES

Enough OJ! Owen Hart RULES! Shawn Micheals!

I <3 FRANKIE VALLI FOREVER! (along with the titles of varoius 4 Seasons songs)

Flea markets are cool! BACHIGALOOOOOO! J-E-T-S, JETS JETS JETS!

Cabin Boy opens Jan 7. [still never seen it]

- I apparantly decided that it was a good idea to start making a list of topics making news in 1994. It's an interesting blend of things that were truly newsworthy, like the WTC bombing in March, things that happened in NYC, like Clinton visiting Brooklyn, things that I had to report about in eigth grade social studies class, like the prime minister of Japan (Moriniro Hosakowa) resigning, and things that could only possibly have been newsworthy to me, like FRANKIE VALLI CONCERT in September.

- A list of famous people I've talked to. They range in famousness from Hacksaw Jim Duggan's father to George Harrison. Most of them are either wrestlers or CBS FM DJs. I also have a sublist of "Famous People who have acknowledged my presence." These are all wrestlers. Here is a sample entry: "MACHO MAN (he looked at my sign that said "Elizabeth <3 Ric Flair" and shook his head"

- A poem about my eighth grade earth science teacher, Mrs. Lafferty. If I thought for a second any of you would get any of it, I'd post it.

BOOK IV

- According to the notes in this book, 1994 is when I finally started listening to modern music, because the effusive praise for Frankie Valli and Jay and the Americans has been replaced by The Smashing Pumpkins and Weezer. Alas. There are also some names of bands I can't even remember listening to, like Ruth Ruth and Bracket. And ok, I'm not going to lie ... there is still quite a bit of Frankie Valli RULES scrawled in there.

-A list of dates that corresponded to important events in various relationships I had throughout the course of my fanfic writing career. I would like to add that I recently felt the need to add the date of my wedding. For posterity, I suppose.

Wow.

Ok.

Well then. COMING UP NEXT ... it's back to the thrilling life of Angel 'n Friends. Will Chris finally ask Angel out? Will Angel say yes? Will there be an egregious declaration of love? Find out next time in ... Chapter 12 Part II: Bobby's New Partner (continued)

Chapter 12: Bobby's New Partner

When we last left our insufferable blonde heroine, she was driving home from Sting's rockin' party, no doubt capable of blowing a .8, if breathalyzers could detect sanctimoniousness and stupid advice. Are you ready to see where this train wreck goes next? (Hint: it involves a hideously long description of how pretty and nice Angel is.) If so, then please join me in suffering through ...

Chapter 12: Bobby's New Partner

In the 2 weeks following Rick and Scott's party, a number of things happened, Bobby, who was still pretty upset about losing Arn, was full time tag teaming with Chris Benoit. He had made this decision after a series of matches between himself and Arn.

The fans now knew that the legendary [?!] Eaton/Anderson team was no more. Arn told the fans that while he was injured, Bobby had never called him. [I'm pretty sure that was an actual storyline. Carters?]. This had made Bobby furious, but he saw no purpose in telling the fans the truth [why not just poll magazine readers?]. He had gone almost his whole career as a heel, and could go on as one now.

Dustin was momentarily pulled off of Cloud 9 when Barry Windham vowed to destroy him and then broke Dustin's forearm. Just yesterday, she had signed his new cast. - "No turn on red - ha ha! Hope you get better real soon. Lotsa love - Angel"

Angel was wrong about her happy streak lasting, so far.

Bobby wanted Chris to meet Angel, so today he brought him in to her office. Chris had never seen her before, but Bobby told her how nice and friendly she was, so he was looking foward to it. But he never expected what he saw.

When they entered the infirmary, Bobby introduced them, but Chris barely heard him. [hold on to your lunch, folks] He was taken aback by her beauty. Her sparkling blue eyes put him in a trance, her golden hair shined in the sunlight from the window. She was, without a doubt, the most beautiful woman he had ever seen. When she shook his hand, his heart raced, and his insides melted [sounds like dysentery]. Her skin was soft and warm.

He floated through the whole introduction, not hearing what anyone said, himself included. There was only her. Her smile. Her face.

When Bobby and Chris left her office, Chris was still with her in her mind.

"Chris? Chris! Hello!" Bobby said, interrupting his thoughts. He snapped back to Earth. "You were really spaced out there for a minute. You ok?"

"Better. I feel wonderful." He began to lace up his boots. "Bob, do you believe in love at first sight?"

"I guess. Why?"

"I've got a bad case of it. Bobby, please, tell me she's single."

"Angelica? Yeah. Why? You mean ..."

"Yeah. Bobby, she's a living goddess."

"She is pretty, isn't she?"

"Pretty? She's drop-dead gorgeous. And you said she was nice, didn't you?"

"Yeah, she's the nicest person I know," he said thoughtfully.

"She's perfect."

"So ask her out."

"What if she says no?"

"What if she says yes?"

"I don't know ..."

"Chris, if you like her that much, then go ahead."

"Well ... allright. It's definately worth a shot. God's she's beautiful," he said wistfully. "Bobby, you're her friend, right?"

"Yeah."

"Would you mind asking her what she thinks of me? I know it's kind of juvenile [you don't say], but please? So that if she didn't like me, I won't make a fool of myself? Please?" [why not just hand her a note that says "do u like me? check yes or no"]

"Allright Chris," Bobby sighed.

After the match, Bobby went to Angel as promised, but not for the reason he had planned. Chris had recieved a huge gash on his forehead during the match, and it was bleeding profusely. Chris had passed out and had to be carried into her office.

Angel had seen everything that had transpired and had everything necessary ready. With a piece of gauze, she applied pressure to the wound.

"Will he be OK?" Bobby looked incredibly pale and terribly concerned.

"If I can stop the bleeding, he'll be just fine" [uhm, except that he's apparantly lost enough blood to lose consciousness]. If not, I'll transfer him to a hospital." She grabbed another piece of gauze.

"He'll be fine. It's only superficial." Finally she had succeeded in stopping the bleeding. She taped down a fresh piece of gauze to his head and washed her hands again quickly.

She caught a glimpse of Bobby's flour-white face.

"Bobby, you'd better sit down."

"I can't see anything. My ears are ringing. Angelica ..." she caught him before he could hit the floor. She set him down gently and put a cot pillow behind his head. Meanwhile, Chris had woken up. He was dazed and unaware of his surroundings.

"Where am I?" His voice was painfully weak.

"Shh, don't talk, Chris. You'll be OK." her voice was soft and soothing.

"Bobby ..." he said, seeing him on the floor.

"He's allright. He just fainted. You lost a bit of blood, and you need to rest."

He laid back and closed his eyes. [Ok, I'm doing another editorial cut here. Basically the next page and a half contains extensive descriptions of Angel changing bandages and mopping their faces with wet washcloths. It's hideously boring. Anyhoo, Bobby comes to with no real explanation as to why he passed out ... I suppose we're supposed to intuit that he's freaked out by the sight of blood, which is, of course, patently ridiculous considering the fact that he's an effing wrestler, but oh well. I'll pick it up at the thrilling juncture where Bobby stands up]

His knees buckled at first, but then he was fine. He had to lean against the wall for support for a few seconds. Angel took the sleeping Chris' pulse and listened to his breathing. Everything seemed OK. She shot a worried glance at Bobby.

"I'm OK." he reassured.

"I'm going to call a backup nurse to handle any other injuries. I'm going to keep an eye on Chris. He needs a little more work."

"I'll stay here."

"No, Bobby. You still don't look so good. I think you'd better go home and rest. He'll be fine. Trust me."

"Ok. He's in good hands."

Bobby left a littel shaky, but otherwise fine. Angel called Katlin Ross the stand-by nurse and told her Chris' situation. She agreed with a bored sigh. Angel had never liked either Katlin or Leslie Canter. They were obnoxious snobs with huge egos. They avoided each other. [who are they and why are we hearing about them now? Well, here's the thing: we have reached the end of the second marble notebook. I was so excited to move on to the next notebook that I just wanted to fill up the rest of the page. It obviously didn't matter what I wrote].

TO BE CONTINUED ...

NOTES:

1) "No turn on red" - Get it? she "signed" it. Yes, I wrote this on someone's cast when I was in seventh grade and thought it was the epitome of wit.

2) The end of the second marble notebook? Egad! Never fear. There are two more. And my writing gets smaller the older I get, so there's plenty to come.

3) I'd like to reiterate one final time that if anyone's squicked out by the mention of Chris Benoit, then abandon ship while you can. He's not going anywhere for a good long while.

COMING UP NEXT:

Before we get to the thrilling conclusion of this chapter, I think I'm going to divulge some of weird crap I wrote in the margins and back pages of the notebooks. These include: lyrics to a song about oldies and a transcript of a blurb I got to read on a radio station. I was such a loser. You, my friends, are the winners.

Chapter 11: Rick and Scott's Party

USA had a Monday Night Raw 800th episode special on last night. Good stuff! Got to see clips of all my old faves from back in 1993, not to mention a chance to check out Cody Rhodes. Dustin's little bro has some killer abs, y'all.

Moving right along!

Here comes an amazing display of needless moralizing to what was an audience of uno (me), not to mention another glimpse into the world's lamest party scene ... someone get some milk for Angel's cookies, it's ...

Chapter 14: Rick and Scott's Party

Angel arrived at the party a little after 5:00 PM. She was wearing a wine colored silk blouse and a black miniskirt [WHAT?!? That trollop!]. She pulled her shining hair into a long braid.

Sting greeted her and his eyes lit up when he saw the cookies she'd brought. [ahem]

When she stepped inside, she immediately noticed that it was smaller than the last bash. She knew everyone there, Ricky Steamboat, Dustin Rhodes, Missy Hyatt, and Ron Simmons. "Where are the Steiners?" she asked Sting after greeting everyone.

"In the kitchen. Scotty wanted to use the phone for a sec."

They came out and when they saw her both of their faces shiowed happy recongition.

"Angie! It's been too long!"

"Hi, Ang."

She hugged them both and congratulated them. "Thanks Angie. Speaking of congratulations, did you hear about Dustin?"

Angel nodded. "Isn't it wonderful? I'm so happy for him."

Sting and Missy were chatting while the others were listening to Dustin talk about his fiance [zzzzz]. Rick went over to join them, but Scott said that he wanted to hang back. Angel decided to keep him company.

"Hey, I heard about you and Marcus."

"Who hasn't?" she half-smiled.

"I didn't think he was that sort of person. How are you doing?" he asked as they sat on a couch.

"I'm much better, thanks. I guess I've gotten over it. I'll never forgive him, though. He hurt me pretty bad."

Scott looked down at the floor. Angel touched his huge shoulder lightly.

"Scott, are you allright?" He sat up and nodded. A rap song came on. Angel wrinkled her nose. Scott saw this and smiled. "Don't like rap?"

She shook her head. "I love doo-wop. 'Tonite, Tonite' by the Mello-Kings is my favorite. Or mabye the 5 Satins with 'In the Still of the Night'." [rock on, young me, rock on.]

Scott hung his head again, and then put his face in his hands [here we go!].

"What did I say? What's wrong, Scotty?" she asked gently.

He sat up again, this time drawing in a long breath. He took his face from his hands and apologized. "I'm just having some problems with my girlfriend and 'In the Still of the Nite" by Boyz II Men is our song. Or maybe it's 'was' our song." He drew in another breath.

"If you want to talk to someone about it, I'm here."

"Thanks, Ang. It's easy to talk to a brother like Rick because he's my best friend, but this subject is very hard to discuss with him. I think I do need to talk to you. It's hard to talk to Sting or Dustin because we're so far apart most of the time." [as opposed to Angel, who lives in his garage?]

"Go ahead when you're ready."

"Well this whole fight is about one thing. This may sound silly, but I don't want to have sex until I'm married."

"That's not silly. I feel the same way."

"Really? We're a dying breed, Ang." [maybe because you're not reproducing?]

"I know. I'll respect whatever other people feel, but I suppose I'm kind of old fashioned. It's kind of a morality issue, I guess."

"I sure wish Marie felt that way, you see, every time we start getting a little too far too fast, I'd stop and ask her to slow down. I guess I did that one too many times last night, because she told me I had stepped over the line. Then she screamed at me to get out and leave her forever. I must have sat and cried for six hours last night. I love her so much. Life without her has become unbearable, oh god, here I go again." he said as a tear rolled down hes cheeck. [about time] Angel picked up his hand and squoze it.

"Why can't you talk to your brother about this?"

"Well, he made a mistake a long time ago, and doesn't want his little brother to make the same mistake [huh?]. Every time Marie and I start up, I get one step closer to losing my virginity. If Rick knew that, he'd lose all respect towards me." [!!!]

"Your borther's respect means a lot to you, doesn't it?"

He nodded.

"Scotty, did Marie love you."

"That's what she told me, why?"

"Well, I'll bet she's feeling as sad as you are right now. She was probably upset last night, but deply regretting what she said to you now."

"You really think so?"

"Yes. Love is the strongest force on earth, and you and Marie have plenty of it. You'll pull together."

"Ang, you're an inspiration and a good friend. Thank you." he gave her a hug.

Scotty went over to talk to Dustin. She was about to go join him when Missy Hyatt stopped her. "Hi Missy."

"Hi Angel. Look, I want to apoligize to you. I've been acting pretty rotton to you lately."

"Thanks, Missy. That's allright."

"Can you beileve what that Creep Marcus Bagwell did to us? Got your eyes on anyone else?"

"Not yet."

"Well stay away from Johnny Gunn. He's mine."

"No problem."

"See ya later!" she bubbled.

Wait till Madusa hears this! [hears what?] thought Angel as she walked over to Dustin, Rick, and Scott. They talked for a while, then Dustin had to elave. He said good-bye to everyone and congratulated his friends tha Steiners, who congratulated him back. Soon after that, the party ended. Angel and the Steiners traded phone numbers so they could stay in touch. Sting thanked her for the cookies and she thanked him for inviting her [compelling drama here].

As angel drove home, she felt better than she had felt in a long time. She hoped this happy streak would last.

NOTES

1) Let me just tell you how convinced I was that Boyz II Men's rendition of "In the Still of the Night" was going to get my generation into oldies: super convinced. Oh well. And maybe I'm a curmudgeon, but I still think the 5 Satins' version is better.

2) So apparantly, Scott is of the same mindset as our pristine Angel when it comes to amorous relations. I really don't know who is the most ridiculous when it comes to sex: Angel, Scott, or Rick. Ok, yes I do: it's Rick. Angel's at least got her weird notion of "morality," which makes zero sense to me, because it doesn't seem like her "morality" derives from any sort of religious ideal or, say, the fact that she has some sort of super-communicable STI that can be spread even with condoms. I mean, if you don't want to have sex before you get married, whatever, that's cool, but saying it's because of "morality" really doesn't explain anything, unless, of course, you're 13 and don't know how to understand or express your burgeoning ideas about sexuality, so you make your fan fiction characters equally clueless. Aaaanyhoo, Rick is out of control obsessed with Scott's sex life. Maybe if Scott were, like, a teenager? But they're two grown men! Yikes! WTF is your problem, Rick? You're seriously creepy. Scott, man, make your own decisions!

3) Marie sounds pretty intense. Hmm ... Marie ... where have we heard that name before?????

4) Angel gives the dumbest advice ever. I'm pretty sure you could get more insight from a dollar store greeting card.

5) Why isn't Alex invited to any parties? Or any other girls, for that matter?

Wow. Ok.

So Angel seems like she's in a pretty good place right now. She's getting cried on left and right, she's buried the hatchet with Missy Hyatt. But you know what she's missing? That's right .... lurv! Will she find it when she meets ... Chapter 12 - Bobby's New Partner? Tune in next time to find out!

Chapter 10: Spreading Good News

So I know you were probably pretty bummed out by the Angelessness in that last chapter. Well never fear, my iron-stomached readers, she's baaaaaaaaack.

Chapter 10: Spreading Good News

Dustin bounded into the Minniapolis Arena happier than he had ever been in his life. The world was beauitful, its beauty second only to his fiance Alexandra. His good mood was dampened slightly when he found out that it was Angel's day off [I can't believe that he didn't start weeping]. He spread the good news to Sting, Ricky Steamboat, Ron Simmons, 2 Cold Scorpio, and the rest of his friends. After the match, he decided to call Angel. He asked if he could come over to her her home in Robinsdale for a few minutes [wait ... now she lives in Minnesota? When did this happen?!?]. She gave him directions. It was only about a 15 minute drive from the arena.

Her hosue was pretty from the outside. It was a small brick 2 story house with lots of windows. It had a saltbox style roof [shout out to my 7th grade social studies teacher, Mr. Kleinrock, for teaching me what those were!] and a one car garage outside. He rang her doorbell and she answered promptly. She had on a blue sweater and a pair of faded jeans. She wore her golden hair up in a ponytail, as usual.

"Hey Dustin, come on in before you freeze."

As soon as he was in, he told her the good news. "Angel, I did it! I proposed to Alex! She said yes! Alex is going to be my wife!!!"

She grabbed him and hugged him. [woah!]

"Dustin! That wonderful! [sic] I'm so happy for the both of you! Congratulations!"

They sat down on her powder blue couch.

"You're not allergic to dogs or cats, are you?"

"No."

"That's good." As soon as she said that, a silver tabby jumped up on her lap. "Hey Fluff-o! Dustin, this is Flufflebunny."

He chuckled at the cat's name and stroked her soft fur.

"So when's the wedding?"

"I don't know, we haven't worked any details out, we still haven't gotten over the initial shock I guess. Hey, why are you crying?" [of course]

"I'm so happy for you Dustin! I can't believe it! What did it feel like?"

"It's hard to explain, Angel. Let me tell you what happened."

Dustin told Angel everything that happened, from what Alex was wearing, to telling everyone the news [exciting!]. Angel got them both coffee, spilling Flufflebunny. She came back from the kitchen with a little tan and white bulldog and a brown and black shar-pei treading at her heels. [what? now I know most of what I wrote is completely ridiculous, but this is the least believable thing so far. What dogs don't either bark like maniacs or immediately bound to the door when a visitor comes in.] She set down the coffee and introduced Wally (the shar-pei) and Floyd (the bulldog). "Excuse me for a minute, Dustin. Come on guys. I'll give you some milkbones if you behave, okay?" They followed her back into the kitchen and then she returned without them. Noises of contented munching drived in from the kitchen.

She looked over at Dustin and he looked as if he was about to cry [finally!]. She rushed over to him. She put her arm around him. "Dustin what's wrong?"

"Barry and I promised each other that we'd be the best men at each other's wedding, and now ..."

"Dustin," she said gently, "That's all in the past. I know it's hard for you, but look at the present. You're getting married to the woman you love, you'll be together forever. Try to put your bad feelings aside. You have a future filled with hope and happiness, don't dwell on sadness in the past." [man. that's so deep]

"You're right Angel. You're so right. I've gotta go, thank you."

"Congratulations, Dustin."

"Say goodbye to your furry friends for me."

"I will."

"Angel?"

"Yeah?"

"I love you."

"I love you too."

"See you tomorrow."

NOTES:

1) Whaaaaaaaaa? WTF was that ending? Well, Dustin, I guess Alexandra may have liquid eyes that light up with love and hair spritzed into a beautiful short style, but obviously you've got to sort some stuff out before you say "I do." I'm pretty sure I wasn't going for any sort of intrigue, though ... it was all supposed to be platonic.

2) So Angel lives in Minnesota now? Okay. I think my reasoning was that lots of wrestlers hail from Minnesota, so Angel probably should too. On the plus side, at least I finally realized that wrestlers don't live in their dressing rooms.

3) I'm a little disappointed at the paucity of details about Angel's house. Aside from a powder blue couch, what's it look like in there? I imagine there are framed posters of kittens dangling from tree limbs with "hang in there!" written at the bottom. And boxes of tissues everywhere.

4) At the risk of making myself seem like even more of a loser, I had a bulldog figurine and a sharpei figurine named, respectively, Wally and Floyd. A lot of things about me have changed since I was 13 years old, but grey cats, tan and white bulldogs, and brown shar-peis are still my favorite pets. Anyhoo, I know what you're thinking. This story was a perfect place for a Debilitating Pet Allergy. Don't think I didn't know that. This just wasn't the time. Be patient.

COMING UP NEXT TIME ...

Hoooooooooooo boy, we've got a good one on the docket. Ridiculous discussions of modern music, relationships, and S-E-X are on the way in ... Chapter 11: Rick and Scott's Party.

Chapter 9: The Proposal

Hi all. Sorry for the long absence. I don't know if this will make up for it or not, but this is a 100% Angel-Free chapter. It's sucky and overwritten, but at least there's no crying. Well, mostly. Anyhoo, without further ado, I hereby present:

Chapter 9: The Proposal

Dustin checked for what must've been the thousandth time that night for the ring. Still there. He breathed a sigh of relief.

He rang Alexandra's doorbell. She came to the door before he could move his finger from the button. SHe was wearing a silky red blouse and a matching skirt [hawt]. Her soft brown hair was spritzed into its beautiful short style [double hawt]. Her liquid brown eyes lit up with love when she set them on Dustin.

Every time Dustin saw her his breath was robbed from him by her sheer beauty [woah, 13-year-old me, that's some line!]. He loved every inch of her [!], from her soft tan skin to her full red lips, from her incredible intelligence to her loving ways. From the tip of her toes to the top of her head, she was perfect.

A look of deep misery and sadness was distorting her lovely face. She invited him in and pulled him onto her couch before he could kiss her hello.

"Dustin, we have to talk." He held her shaking hand gently as she continued. "That is if you want to talk to me after what happened."

"What are you talking about, Alex?"

"I just totaled your friendship with Barry. It's all my fault. Please don't play innocent, it'll only hurt me more when you go."

"Alex, I won't leave you. I love you more than I've ever loved another soul. And nothing that happened between me and Barry was your fault. I don't blame you for anything."

She still looked a little doubtful. "You don't?"

"No. Of course not."

"Then you didn't come over here to break up with me?"

"No!" He said smiling. He had come over to do something else, something wonderful.

"Oh Dustin, I'm so happy to hear that. The thought of losing you is unbearable." She buried her face in his chest and held on to him like the wolrd would end tomorrow.

"I feel the same way about you, Alex."

"Then why are you here?"

It wasn't exactly the most romantic moment, but oppurtunity only knocks once. He pulled her to gently to her feet, got onto one knee, and presented the diamond ring.

"Alexandra, will you marry me?"

Her jaw dropped and tears welled in her eyes.

"Dustin! I dont know what to say! I ... I ... yes!" She threw her arms around his neck and he clapsed her around the waist and swung her around in a circle while she covered him with kisses.

NOTES:

1) Well that was exciting. And grotesquely trite. But still more romantic than the way I got my engagement ring (his mom just handed it to me). Good for you, Dullexandra. I'm sure Barry will handle this very well.

So that was a pretty short chapter. But I prefer to think of it as mercifully short. I can't believe that Angel didn't even get a mention. No worries, folks, she's back with a bland blonde vengeance in ... Chapter 10 - Spreading Good News. BONUS: We get to see Angel's house. SUPER BONUS: egregious declaration of love. Seeya next time!

Chapter 8.2: Clash of the Champions II (part 2)

So ... when we last left our distinguished characters, Angel was sitting in her office waiting for men to cry on her and Bobby was severely upset by something he saw in the dressing room. I know y'all have been losing sleep over what that might be ... therefore, I now present to you the thrilling conclusion of Clash of the Champions II ...

"Bobby? You OK"

He took a second to compose himself, but still looked odd. "Yeah," he lied.

During the match Bobyb directed all of his emotions toward his opponent, and tore him apart. After the match and showers, Chris again asked Bobby if he was allright. Bobby hated to lie to a nice guy liek Chris, but he didn't watn to talk to him about it.

The main event was Scott "Flash" Norton agasint Sting [now there's an exciting bout]. After the match, which Sting won, he went to Angel's office. He wasn't hurt, but wanted to ask her something.

"Hey Ang!" he greeted happily.

"Hey Sting, what's up?"

"I've got some awesome news."

"Good, I could use some."

"Something wrong?"

"Ever have one of those days?"

"I've had one too many."

Angel smiled and said "What's the news?"

"You remember Rick and Scott Steiner?"

"Of course."

"They just won the WWF tag belts!"

"That's great! I'm so happy for them. I've gotta call them to congratulate them!"

"No need to. I'm thowing them a party to congratulate them and you there seemed to hit it off pretty well. It's Friday at 5:00 at my house. Can you make it?" [another party that starts before the sun even considers going down.]

"Sure! Want me to bring some cookies?" [NOW it's a party!]

"Would you mind?" his eyes flashed.

"Of course not."

"Thanks a bunch, you know I love them. Hey, I heard about Marcus. I'm sorry. Are you OK?"

"Yeah, I guess I got over it, [already? but you LOVED him!] but thanks for asking."

"Okay. See you then." He gave her a hug and left.

Bobby put his head in his hands and cried softly. He couldn't remember the last time he'd cried.

Angel locked up her office and started down the hall. She passed by the "heel" dressing room, she heard a little nosie coming from inside the room. She pushed open the door open a little, and saw Bobby sitting on a folding chair. She knocked softly.

"Bobby? It's Angelica. Are you OK?"

Angelica saw what she assumed to be a nod from Bobby and walked in. She pulled up a folding chair and touched his shoulder. "Bobby? Are you allright?"

He lifted his face from his hands. It was tear-stained but rather pale.

"Is it Arn?" she asked gently.

He nodded. "I overheard him talking to Ric Flair. Arn said that he'd be able to team with Ric as soon as he got rid of me and that it would be no problem becaue he had already started up something between us. How coudl he? The man has got no heart." He put his head down and cried while Angel comforted him. A few minutes later he looked at his watch and said he had to leave. He thanked her.

"Anytime Bobby. Are you OK?"

He nodded and hugged her. This night had been awfully depressing. Her ex-boyfriend had mad a futile attempt to get back together with her, and 2 sets of the world's best friends had broken up. Maybe happier times would be ahead ...

NOTES:

1) That? Seriously? That is what upset Bobby to the point of paleness and tears? That? Wow.

2) So I suppose by this point I accepted that wrestlers did not live in their dressing rooms, as evidenced by the fact that Sting has a house that he repeatedly invites people to, but it still had not quite dawned on me that wrestlers travel a lot and, in fact, are probably not always by their houses. This fact will get even more obvious in upcoming chapters, as we will finally get to see the inside of Angel's house, but for now, all such ridiculousness will have to remain with Sting.

3) Speaking of which, another party at Sting's? I hope this one is more exciting. Maybe he'll get a clown or magician. Cross your fingers for pizza bagels.

Coming up next ...

We've got a good one on the docket here, folks. I don't to give too much away, but let's just say it involves an irrational amount of adjectives and overblown professions of love. And a fantastic outfit description. Tune in next time for ... Chapter 9: The Proposal.

Chapter 8: Clash of the Champions 2 (part I)

Hey everyone ... I got a new computer ... and this one has two functioning shift keys! What happened to the shift keys on the last computer, you ask? Well, it involves a pressing desire to clean under the keys and an inability to replace all of those keys after satiating that desire. So now I'm typing at more productive speeds now! Hooray!

Anyhoo, back to the crap writing ... I think I need to make a tag for male friend breakups that sound like ending relationships. I'll just call it "guy breakup."

So, here's the first part of the second part of Clash of the Champions 2. Enjoy!

Chapter 8: Clash of the Champions 2 (part 1)

Bobby decided that he had to talk to Angelica about his fight with Arn. It had been one week since their fight, and she had a right to know [why?]. He hoped she didn't take it the wrong way. He loved her too much to wat to see her get hurt.

"Angelica, I need to tell you something." [woah - he's already in her office? what happened to the extended description of him knocking or walking through her "always open door"?)

"Sure, Bobby," said Angel, slightly mystified. They sat on folding chairs in teh back.

"Remember a week ago when you were a little upset about Marcus?"

"Of course."

"Well, Arn saw us and he believed that we were romantically involved. He thought he caught me having an affair."

"That's ridiculous."

"I know, I explained everything to him, but he's so damn stubborn, oh, excuse me" [wait, is he seriously apologizing for saying 'damn'? wow. just ... wow.]

"No problem."

"Anyway, we got into a big fight and he won't talk to me."

"Bobby! That's terrible! It's all my fault."

"Angelica, none of thsi is your fault. If anythi else, this is Arn's fault and no one else's. He's too darn [that's better] narrowminded, but something's gotta be bugging him. In all of the years I've known him, hes never fought wtih me without a motive. There must be something behind this."

When he said that, Angel couldn't help but remember Dustin and Barry. The poor guy. Proposing should've been the happiest event in his life, now a black cloud was smothering out every faint glimmer of joy left in him. His voice had really gotten to her. It was so soft and sad. She just wanted to squeeze him hard and make everything better for him [cue porn music], he deserved the best in the world.

"Angelica, are you allright?" Bobby's quiet voice broke her thoughts.

"Yeah. I'm just ... I'm fine." Bobby opened his mouth, then closed it quickly. He knew Angelica well, and now was clearly not hte time to press. She had looked very distant for a second, and her blue eyes had tears beginning to form in the bottom lids.

"I'm fine." She repeated quickly, noticing his look of deep concern for her. A sudden thought came to her, here she was thinking about poor Dustin, but what about Bobby? "But what about you, Bobby? How are you taking this?"

He sighed. "It's pretty hard on me. with him injured, we don't get together at all, but he was like a part of my family. We were so close. I just hope that this whole thing will blow over. 2 years. That's too much to throw away. If he'd only listen to me! I'm sure we could straighten this whole mes out. It's almost like, you know, he doesn't watn to try to be friends gain. I know that sounds stupid, but it's been nagging me for a while." He looked at his watch. "Sorry, Angelica, I've got a tag match."

"Who are you tag-teaming with?"

"Chris Benoit. He's a nice kid. Thank you, Angelica. I'll see you later." He gave her a hug and left.

Bobby and Chris were passing by the dressing room for the "heels" when Bobby stopped to get soem maore tape for his wrists. When he came back out, his face was drained of all color. The emotions on his face showed sadness, confusion, and above all, anger.

... to be continued ...

Notes:

1) Yes, this chapte features the brief introduction of Chris Benoit ... and again, if it's going to freak you out that he plays a part in this ... you should probably stop reading now. Then again, I assume if you've come along for the ride this far, you're in it for the long haul.

2) Amy: I don't know what's in Arn's future as far as birthday parties go, but I'm just gonna guess that things ain't lookin' good in that department, seeing as how "they don't get together at all." They've been friends for 2 whole years! Come on!

Coming up next ...

What does Bobby see that is so shocking? And how will Angel come to his emotional resuce? Find out next time in ... Chapter 8.2: Clash of the Champions 2 (part 2)!

Chapter 7 - Clash of the Champions I

Chapter 7 – Clash of the Champions I

Special shout-out to The Carters, as this is where Dustin and Barry break up. And, as Wikipedia has confirmed, they actually did break up at the Clash of the Champions for the reason described here. Well, the part about Ricky Steamboat. I’m pretty sure it had nothing to do with a love triangle.

---

The first match pitting 2 Cold Scorpio and Marcus Alexander Bagwell versus the team of Steve Austin and Brian Pillman [The Hollywood Blondes!] was a short one that ended with a DQ victory for Marcus and Scorpio. "Flyin" Brian Pillman hit Marc over th ehead with the belt, and then rammed his skull into the ringpost. Scorpio, fearing a concussion, brought him, carried him actually (he was out cold) to the nurse on duty, Angelica Kerris.

She helped Scorpio put him on the cot. "Will he be OK" he asked. "He'll be fine, Scorpio."

Angel grabbed the smelling salts and wove them under his nose briefly. He awoke instantly. Angel kept him from jolting upright.

"Do you feel dizzy or nauseas?" she asked, getting her optic light. [optic light? that sounds like Cyclops' mutant power. PS - let me tell you how close I was to writing X-Men fanfic. Very close. I had stories in my head, but they never made it to paper. We're all winners on that front, folks]

"No, but my head is killing me."

"Look at me." she said shinign the light into his eyes to check for dialation. They looked fine. She checked otu his heart and blood pressure. Normal. "How is your vision?"

"Fine."

"What day is it?"

"Wednesday."

"Where does it hurt the most?"

He pointed to a large bump on his head, hiddend by masses of dark hair. Angel got an ice pack and a couple of aspirin [look at that medical training! just like my school nurse!]

"Keep this up there until the ice melts, by then the swelling should have gone down, if it hasn't come back to me. Take more aspirin if the pain starts to bother you."

"Angel, can we talk." asked Marc. Scorpio excused himself, saying he had stuff to take care of.

"I don't have much to say to you, Marcus." She said frostily.

"But I have so much to say to you, Angel. I need to explain."

"Like what, Marcus. What could possibly need explaining?" [maybe he needs to explain that going on one date with somebody and not even getting to second base doesn't imply exclusivity]

"Oh Angel, I'm so sorry."

"You're sorry? Marcus, you broke my heart! I loved you and you were cheating on me with Missy Hyatt. How can you explain that?"

"I don't know, Angel. I never wanted this to happen, I loved you too. I'm sorry."

"Sorry isn't good enough, Marcus. Nothing is. You hurt me and I'll never forget that. Now I've got work to do, okay?"

"Yeah, Ok." he left and they both ahde tears streaming down their faces.

Angel pulled herself together and cleaned up. She was terribly nervous. The next match was Dustin Rhodes and Barry Windham versus Ricky Steamboat and Shane Douglas. It was for Dustin and Barry's titles.

The match went smoothly until Ricky Steamboat was hit in the groin. Dustin refused to pin his friend for the victory. Barry was seething. He forced a tag to Dustin and further impaired Steamboat with some inverted atomic drops. Dustin tried in vain to stop him. Then to Barry's dismay and everyone's surprise, Ricky rolled up Barry for the three count and the tag titles. Shaen helped Ricky into the stretcher and angel fowarded Ricky to a hospital because there was nothing she could do for him. [what about an icepack and some aspirin?]

Meanwhile, Barry and Dustin got into a fight. Barry threw the first punch. Dustin tried to defend himself, but he didn't want to fight Barry, his longtime best friend. Barry superplexed Dustin off of the top rope, then rammed him into the steel pole head first several times. Finall, Barry spat on him and walked away.

Dustin was out cold and put on a stretcher, but by the time he got to Angel, who had seen the whole horrible event on her TV screen, he came around. He trid to get up, but Angel pushed him back down.

"Where's Ricky? Is he OK?"

"He'll be fine, Dustin. Now you've got to relax so I can check you out, OK?"

"Okay" he said reluctantly. ...

[I seriously had to cut some of this out. She basically takes a page to bandage his head and put iodine on his cuts. It's hideously boring. Trust me. Then Angel sits next to him on the cot and closes the door, thus ignoring any other medical duties that might come up for the rest of the night, in case Dustin needs to talk. And cry. Are you ready for the most egregiously egregious crying yet? Take a deep breath ...]

"I don't think I want to talk about this right now. Please don't take any offense. Can I just stay here with you for a while?"

"Sure, Dustin. I'll always be here for you. Stay as long as you need."

"Thanks, Ang." His voice was so soft, so sad. Angel felt tears brimming in her eyes. Dustin drew in a long, choppy breath, and he knew that he was going to cry. He didn't mind because Angel always made him feel comfortable. He loved her so much. He didn't know if he'd be able to cry in front of Sting, or even the Steiners. He loved them too, but she had a kind of magic over him [hurl], kind of like Barry used to have [huh?]. Oh god. Barry.

Angel felt his shoulders begin to shake. She put both arms around him. He sobbed quietly. Angel tightened her hold on him. A tear slid down her cheek. A few minutes later, he was ready to talk. He wiped his eyes and blew his nose [a key plot point, no doubt], and started his story.

"What you saw tonight was bad enough, the story is worse. Barry was even more upset that I told him that I was going to propose to Alex."

"You're what?"

"Tomorrow night I'm going to ask Alexandra York to be my wife."

"Congratulations! That's wonderful!"

"Thanks Ang. I just wish Barry felt the same way." He kissed her lightly, and thanked her again, then left, saying he needed to think, with tears still streaming.

This has been one of the saddest days of my life, thoguht Angel. It just has to get better. She was wrong.

NOTES:

1) Pfft, Angel and Dustin so need to get it on. They're both blonde and like crying and hugging. What else do you need for a healthy relationship?

2) Speaking of healthy relationships, RIP Angel and Marcus. How could it have possibly failed? He loved her all along! Shoot. Kind of makes you cynical about all relationships, eh? If it didn't work for them, how will any of us ever find love?

Coming up next ...

What else can possibly happen to break Angel's heart tonight? How about one more blonde guy crying in her office? Bonus: Angel mentions her cookies. Super Bonus: I mention Scott "Flash" Norton ... wow, that's old school. Tune in next time for ... Chapter 8 - Clash of the Champions II

Chapter 6: Two Timing

So things were looking up for Angel in that last chapter. A new promotion, a new man to immediately fall in love with for no real reason ... looking ahead to the title of this chapter, however, I'm just going to assume that stuff's goin' south.

Chapter 6 – Two Timing

The next day, Angel walked into work all smiles. Word of the promotion had gotten around, and everyone was happy for her.

As she set up, she noticed that there was hardly any gauze, which was a major need. She went down to the supply closet in the basement and opened it with her key. She grabbed a couple of boxes from the shelf close to the door. She noticed some movement out of the corner of her eye. What she saw almost made her drop the boxes. Marcus Alexander Bagwell was in a liplock with Missy Hyatt.

She ran out silently, not wanting Marc to see her for fear he might run after her. She ran into the infirmary, dropped the gauze on the desk, and sat on a cot. She kept telling herself not to cry, that it would get her nowhere, but she couldn’t help it. The tears flowed freely down her cheeks.

Bobby Eaton was on his way to a training session with Arn when he noticed that Anglica’s door was closed. Her door was always open. He hoped that nothing was wrong, and knocked softly. When there was no answer, he opened it slightly. He saw her face in her hands and her shoulders shaking. He rushed over to her.

“Angelica, what’s wrong?”

She choked back a sob and said “Oh Bobby, I just saw Marcus kissing Missy Hyatt.”

“Oh, I’m sorry. I know how much you liked him.”

“I didn’t just like him, I loved him, Bobby. Why has every body I loved turned around and broke my heart? First Marty, now Marc. Why?”

“Love can be cruel.”

Angelica sobbed. Bobby stroked her silky blonde hair [hurl] and she cried until she felt hollow inside.

Meanwhile, Arn Anderson who was looking for Bobby caught Angel and Bobby together. He was holding her! He knew it! Wait until Mrs. Eaton found out Arn slipped away silently.

“Bobby, this world would be so empty without you. Thank you for being here for me. And if you ever need a friend, I’ll always be here for you.”

“Same here. Okay, sorry, I’ve gotta go. Arn is waiting for me. “

“I’ll see you later.”

Bobby caught up to Arn in the hallway.

“Hey Arn.”

“Hey.” He said coldly

“Something wrong, Arn?”

“Don’t’ think I don’t know what you’re up to.”

“What’dya mean?”

“Don’t play dumb with me, Bobby. I saw you and the nurse with each other today.”

“Angelica? Arn, I’m her friend, she needed me. She was having a rough time and I was comforting her.” Bobby walked off, shaking his head.

“Don’t you dare do that, Bobby Eaton. This conversation isn’t finished.”

“Arn, I don’t’ want to fight with you. You’re my best friend. Friendships are based on trust, but it seems this one is lacking trust.”

“You expect me to trust you after what I just saw? You’re a liar.”

“What is wrong with you, Arn?”

“It’s not me, it’s you, Eaton.” [I love how all of the fights between male friends in their mid-thirties sound like junior high break-ups.]

“I don’t have to take this, Arn. This conversation is over.”

“Yeah, then well so is this whole friendship!”

“Arn, we’ve been friends for two years, we’ve had plenty of fights worse than this. You’ve always trusted me. Trust me now.”

“And you’ve never lied to me. I can’t possibly trust someone who’s going to lie to me. Were you or were you not in the arms of that nurse.”

“I was but …”

“No buts. I think I know what I saw, and so do you.” [geez, what is this guy’s deal? Why can’t he be happy that his bff is cuddling a hot nurse?]

“Arn, she had her problems and I was concerned for her.”

“Don’t gimme that. Men and women can’t just be friends.”

“Look, Arn, this whole fight is stupid.”

“So you want me to just forget about it so you can get off the hook. No way. Now you listen, and you listen hard, because this is the last thing I’ll ever say to you, Eaton. You can have an affair with every cheap blond floozy you find, but if your wife ever finds out, don’t come crying to me, cause I sure as hell won’t care.”

Bobby didn’t call Arn back, he knew that it wouldn’t’ do any good. When Arn got mad, he took a while to cool down. But a week went by, and Arn hadn’t said a word to Bobby. With Arn’s knee injured, they dind’t tam together. Bobby was angry and upset, but he didn’t want to tell angel about it because he knew that Angelica, being her sweet self, would consider it her fault. He didn’t want to hurt her. Word had gotten to Marcus that angel had seen Missy and him kissing in the closet. Marc felt terrible about it, she refused to talk to him about it, it really hurt him. That was probably why his awareness was cut down in the ring at the upcoming clash.

Notes:

1) That scumbag! In the medical supply-filled basement of the sports complex with Missy Hyatt! Angel should have known never to trust a man with deep pools of eyes. I would like to point out that this is the lamest, most non-confrontational discovery of infidelity ever.

2) Who is your vote for most boring character? Mine is totally Bobby. Also, my vote for the most easily and bizarrely irritable character is Arn.

Coming up next:

Uh, oh, looks like Marc is going to be distracted in his upcoming match. I wonder if that will result in an injury that will require a visit to the infirmary … dunt dunt DUNN! Find out in …. Chapter 7 – Clash of the Champions I.

Chapter 5: The Date

This has nothing to do with Angel, but I'd just like y'all to know that my dog has wicked gas right now. Gosh.

Anyhoo ... Enjoy!

Chapter 5 – The Date

The day could not move quickly enough for Angel. Her date with Marcus was tonight, and she couldn’t wait. At the end, while she was cleaning up her office, Mr. Watts said that he wanted her in his office. She wanted to scream in frustration, this day was long enough! But she obediently went in and sat down.

“Good afternoon, Ms. Kerris.”

“Good afternoon, sir.”

OK, can the small talk, baldy, I’ve gotta get out of here!

“Ms. Kerris, I’ll make this quick,”

Please! Yes! Quick! Over and done with! SOON!

“Our head nurse Sally was not showing for all her matches. [huh?] Plain and simple – she was fired. It is mentioned in your contract that while on this job, you will be prompt and efficient. So, we, Ole and I, have decided to promote you to head nurse. This job will mean longer hours and more traveling, but there is a 30% pay increase. Will you accept?”

“Yes, of course.”

“Good.” They shook hands and Angel left.

Marcus picked her up at 6:00 on the dot. He took her to a cute little Italian restaurant. He was overjoyed that Angel had been promoted. After dinner, they went pack to his apartment. They started to kiss, and things were heating up quickly. [start the porno music]

“Wait,” he said. “How far do you want to go?” [what are they, high school kids in a 50’s movie? Who even asks that question?]

“Well … let’s slow down a little. I’m kind of saving myself for marriage, if you know what I mean.” [how could he not? You weren’t being particularly vague there, hon]

“Of course.”

They kissed for a long time after, he was a perfect gentleman. Then they sat and talked for awhile, then she had to leave. He gave her a long goodnight kiss at her door. [did it linger?]

As soon as she got into the door, the phone rang.

“Ang! Where have you been !?!? I’ve been trying to get you for at least six hours. Don’t tell me your dated lasted that long!”

“Okay, I won’t tell you.”

“Ang! You hunk-magnet.!”

“Relax, Duce, nothing happened, nothing really.”

“Are you sure? You don’t sound too sure.”

“Madusa, I think I fell in love.” [oh glory.]

---
Notes:

1) I am sorely disappointed that there were no outfit descriptions in that chapter. If I had some sort of time-travel powers, I’d use them exclusively to tell 13-year-old me to include a lengthy discussion of what everyone wore in this chapter.

2) Ok, so I obviously had no idea what happened on dates, but I had a good idea that it probably included eating at restaurants, talking, and kissing. That’s not a bad basic set of date activities, but in terms of what people said to each other or what kissing was actually like, pffft no clue. I wasn’t really going to form a clue for several years, because I was a rather awkward-looking gal at this point in my life. I had super-short hair, was shaped like a plush rectangle, and wore glasses the size of safety goggles. Not to mention that I let my mom dress me and refused to wear jeans or any other pants with zippers. I was all stretchy pants and track suits all the time. Hawt. Also, I liked wrestling to a degree that alienated me from the majority of my peers.

3) I did, however, know all about S-E-X and thought the idea was G-R-O-S-S. Waiting ‘til marriage sounded like a good idea to me. This had nothing to do with religion, because I wasn’t raised to be religious. It had more to do with a “you put that there? Eeew!” mentality. I think Angel feels the same way. She’s just too mature to say so. Anyhoo, you think this is ridiculous? Wait until you see what happens with the Steiner brothers.

Could this be TWU WUV for Angel?? Find out next time in …. Chapter 6: Two Timing

Chapter 4 - The Omni

Sorry I've been sparse with the updates! I'll try to make sure I update twice a week from now on. My professional life has been a bit nuts lately. This should settle down in the next month or so ... but until then, I humbly present to you ...

Chapter 4 – The Omni

With Marcus’ kiss still lingering on her lips, Angelica unlocked the door to hier office. Bill Watts always insisted that the nurses be at the match location at least 3 hours before the card started.

Madusa Micelli walked through her open door. “Hey Ang, how was the party?”

“Great, especially at the end.” She said mysteriously.

“Come on, what happened? Spill it!”

“OK. Marc Bagwell kissed me, nothing that important.”

“Well, Mrs. Bagwell, planning on having any kids?” Madusa teased.

“Please, it’s not that serious,” laughed Angel.

“I’ll bet Missy the Airhead wasn’t too happy about that.”

“What do you mean?”

“Come on, Ang, everyone knows that Missy has had her eye on Marcus for quite a while.”

“That explains why she hasn’t been very talkative when she’s been around me.”

“Lucky you. She’s probably mad because you’re smarter than her.”

“A bar of soap is smarter than her,” giggled Angel. [uhm. Angel? You picked out your own outfit for Sting’s party. I wouldn’t talk.]

Madusa laughed. “Hey, I’ve gotta go. Rick needs me.”

“Have fun.”

“I always do.” She breezed out of the infirmary.

Ugh, thought Angel, she had no idea what Madusa saw in Rick Rude. His last name described him perfectly. Ugh. For about half an hour, she set up, because there was nothing better to do. Gauze went over there, tape over there, iodine over there, and bandages over there [are y’all taking notes?]

Bobby Eaton walked through her always-open door. “Hey.”

“Hey Bobby, what’s up?”

“Nothing much. Just wanted to talk.”

“Anything in particular?”

“Nope. Just wanna talk.”

“Well, I’m here.” They moved to the folding chairs in the back and sat down.

“I figured we could, you know, get to know each other better.” [if this were erotica, there would be a nurse’s uniform on the floor right now. But it’s not. Apologies to everyone who found this page by googling “nurse erotica” … better luck next time].

“Sure. I was born and raised in Rhode Island [what happened to Rosebud, Idaho? No clue.] I’ve got 2 dogs named Wally and Floyd, a cat named Flufflebunny, and my favorite movie is West Side Story. Anything else?” she said in an overly bubbly voice.

He laughed softly. “No, I kinda mean recent stuff. You know … Flufflebunny?” he broke off, laughing harder now. Angel joined in.

“Fluffy for short, Fluff-o when she’s especially good.” She said in between laughs. She had never found her cat’s name that funny, but now somehow it was hilarious. When the laughs died down, Bobby said “Angelica, your cat’s a great icebreaker. Anyway, I was thinkin’ more like you know, when’d you get into wrestling?”

“Well, about 2 years ago, I went from college to the WWF to be in some sort of medicine job, but they needed a manager, so they decided to hire me.”

“Why’d you leave?”

“Well … I had … problems.”

“Hey, I’m sorry. This must be hard for you to talk about. I don’t mean to pry. I’m real sorry.”

“No, it’s ok. I haven’t talked about this since it happened. It’ll be good for me. I was managing a guy named Marty Jannetty. He was so sweet to me. I fell very deeply in love with him very quickly. I dreamed of him and I getting married and living in Georgia and a whole bunch of other stuff like that.” A sad smile broke across her face. She looked down and continued. “And then one day I found a clipping from some magazine about Marty’s entrance to this other federation. The magazine asked him about me. He said that we had something for about 5 seconds and that I was a dumb blonde. I don’t think I’ll ever forget that. I felt so empty … so used … how could he do that to me? I loved him so much.” She put her hands into her face.

Bobby silently slipped an arm around her. That must’ve been horrible for her, the poor thing. She was such a sweet girl. Who in their right mind would want to hurt her?
“You okay, Angelica?”
Angel nodded and wiped away a few forming tears.
“Thank you, Bobby.” She said and hugged him warmly.
“Hey, what are friends for? Hey, I’ve gotta go. I’m meeting Arn at the gym.”
They said goodbye. Angel washed up and got the office ready.
Marc was next to enter the room.
“Hi Angel.” He greeted.
“Marc! Hi! What’s up?”
“I was wondering – what are you doing Thursday? I thought maybe we could go out someplace.”
“Sounds good to me.” Angel tried to seem as un-eager as possible [did she yawn loudly?] Madusa had taught her that over-eager women scared off men [how progressive]
“Great. I’ll pick you up around 6:00.”
“Perfect. See you then.”
He left her with a kiss that lingered. [gross?]
AT 9:00 PM Sharp, the card started. She treated 3 sprained knees, mild contusions, and a whomp on the head (all scrubs) [scrubs = jobbers]. The main event was Dustin Rhodes and Barry Windham versus Chris Benoit, a guy she hardly knew, and Steve Austin, whom she also barely knew. Dustin and Barry lost, and they had gotten into a shouting match at the end. No one was hurt, but Angel was not at all surprised when Dustin came into her infirmary. [I would assume that the readers are likewise unsurprised]
“Ang – can we talk. Please?” There was a note of urgency in his voice.
“Of course, Dustin have a seat.” She pulled a folding chair. They had probably 20 minutes until she might have a patient. [uhm, I thought that was the main event?]
“Angel, I don’t know how much more Barry and I can take. And we try to cover it up with little excuses.” [are they a couple? I don’t remember writing slash]
Dustin saw Angelica’s puzzled expression.
“Oh, you don’t know about Alexandra, do you?”
Angel shook her head.
“Alexandra York was the manger of the York Foundation. Barry and I both took a liking to her. Barry’s been sore ever since Alex picked me over him. It’s silly ‘cause it’s not my fault, it’s not his fault, heck, it’s not even Alex’s fault really. I mean, if Alex had picked him over me, I would’ve been unhappy sure, but to let it destroy our friendship? I knew that it was bound to cause turbulence. But, heck, to still be arguing about it 4 ½ months after it happened? If he and Alexandra were a happy couple, well, I’d be happy for him. Or at least I’d try as hard as I could to pretend. This is just a mess Angel. I can’t choose between them. That’s like if someone asked you which parent would you rather have killed, your mother or your father [ … yes. It’s exactly like that.] I love Alex, but Barry has been my best friend since as far back as I can remember. Now it seems like whenever something little gets between me and Barry, it gets blown way out of proportion because he’s jealous. This stuff makes me sick.” He was near tears.

Angelica thought that this was one of the saddest tales she had ever heard. Caught between your bet friend and the woman you love. It sounded like a tragic soap opera plot [how meta].
“I don’t’ know what to say, Dustin. I’m so sorry.” She put her arm around him, but it turned into a long hug. She felt a wet spot forming on her shoulder where his tears fell.
“Angel, I don’t know what id’ do without you. Now I’ve gotta go, I’ve got a rather ironic date with Alex. [someone needs a lesson on the definition of irony] Thanks again.”
He gave her a friendly kiss on the cheek, and then left.

NOTES:

1) What is it about Angel that makes men cry all over her? It’s rather disquieting.
2) The best explanation I have as to why Angel’s hometown switched from Idaho to Rhode Island is that I had to do a project on the Rhode Island colony in 7th grade. I must have considered myself something of an expert.
3) Yeah, that’s Chris Benoit up there. How was I to know all that horrible stuff would happen 15 years in the future? If you’re freaked out by that brief mention, you might want to stop reading this blog now, because you ain’t seen the last of him.
4) Can Marcus give a kiss that doesn't linger? What does that even mean? Is he coating his lips in molasses?

COMING UP NEXT … Angel and Marcus step out onto the town. What did a 13-year-old girl who looked like Garth think happened on a date? Tune in next time to find out in … Chapter 5 – The Date!
